PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
Established in the year 1979, Sri Bharatapati Mahavidyalaya, Samantiapalli, Ganjam caters the needs of Higher Education of the tribal, bilingual and backward people of bordering Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. The mission of the college is to prepare young minds to face the future challenges effectively and to live in this modern world with dignity. We are making steady progress in our vision and mission to realize the dreams cherished by dignitaries of this area 36 years back.
We look forward to meet the reputed academicians of NAAC during our re-accreditation process and benefit from their valuable suggestions and co-operation to move towards a brighter future.

Its shape represents a memento of success and recognition.

In front of the book is Burning Lamp, emitting silver-rays, the insignia of enlightenment.

The ‘SWASTIKA is the ancient Indian mark of mental elevation and sacredness.
The Two Fresh Green Branches are the epitome of life, hope and self reliance.
The message in Devanagari script TAMOSO MA JYOTIRGAMAYA’ meaning ‘Dispel Darkness by light’ denotes eradication of ignorance by wisdom.
Below the Inner Circle :
The LOTUS as the National Flower of India, signifies pace and prosperity for all.
Inside the inner circle the name of the institution is written in English. Inside the outer circle the name of the institution, its place of location and District is written in Odia, Below it the year of the foundation of the college is mentioned in Odia Figures.
Briefly, the various symbols in the Crest carry the underlying that S.B.P. Mahabidyalaya manifests the noble motto of providing its students with learning, wisdom, hope and vigor which would enable them to achieve mental, moral and material development and lead to their attainment peace and prosperity in life.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Sri Bharatapati Mahavidyalaya, Samantiapalli, Ganjam, was established in the year 1979 with the name Samantiapalli College, Samantiapalli with an objective to cater the need of Higher Education of the poor people living in this bilingual, backward region of the state. The aspiration, enthusiasm and eagerness of the local people, led by a committed leader Sri Jagannath Pati, the then M.L.A. of Chikiti Constituency, initiated to establish a college at Samantiapalli, on 12th of August 1979. The college functioned in a private building till 1980 then it was shifted to its present campus and later the college renamed as Sri Bharatpati Mahavidyalaya in the name of the founder President. The mission of the college is to prepare its students to face the modern challenges of their life and contribute for the growth and development of the nation as a good citizen.
The institution is affiliated to Berhampur University and follows the curriculum prescribed by the university. Two of our faculties are members in the Board of studies of the University. The college imparts Three year Degree Course (TDC) in Arts with honours in History, Political Science, Odia and Economics and in Science stream with Honours in Mathematics, Physics, Botany and zoology. The course incorporates the issue of Environmental Education and Indian Society and Culture as compulsory subject at the UG level. The college has made sustained and concentrated efforts to bring innovations in teaching and learning process. Remedial classes are conducted for the academically backward and slow learners. The academic assessment and progress of course are maintained by the teachers through preparation of lesson plan and progress, verified by the H.O.D.s and Principal in regular intervals. Student’s performances are evaluated through class room interaction, unit tests and annual examinations.
The communicative skill and confidence level of the students are assessed through organization of Departmental Seminars, Debates, and other socio-cultural activities. The participation of the students are encouraged through conducting extension activities , field works, study tours and organizing activities through NSS,YRC, Red Ribbon Club and some UGC sponsored extension programmes; to fulfil the institutional social responsibility through community service.
The student friendly library provides access to reading room facilities for staff and students. The students get benefitted through Book Bank, College Magazine, Departmental Seminars, Sport, Games, Alumni Meet, Parent Teacher Meeting and other cultural activities.
The college has established an Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) to ensure quality assurance continuously within the academic and administrative management system for enhancing quality in higher education. Keeping pace with the changing world the institution has adopted best practices to fulfil the academic excellence in the college with the use of ICT enabled teaching methods in the form of LCD, OHP, Audio Visual support system, Computer with Internet facility for improving quality in education and communicative skill of the student and teachers.
The college enrols students through the Students Academic Management System (SAMS) as per the norms of the D.H.E., Odisha. The demand ratio of applications and admitted students has enhanced from 2:1 in the year 2011-12 to 4:1 in year 2015-16. The college provides extra care for the physically challenged students by providing with conducive infrastructural facilities and assistance in learning process.
The college has a team of committed and dedicated teaching and non-teaching staff for providing quality education in this backward and marginalized region. Out of the 18 teaching faculties five members have Ph.D degrees and other six members with M.Phil degrees. Three teachers are actively involved in participation of academic conferences and publication of research articles in reputed journals and the proceedings of the conferences. Eight faculty members have participated in the concerned subject refresher courses. Most of the teachers have participated in National and State level conferences. Three of them participated in international seminars and conferences and presented their papers. This enhances the quality of teaching, research and participation of teachers in achieving the mission of the college. Dr.Puroshottam Sahu, Lect-in-Economics of this college is also guiding two Ph.D research scholars for Ph.D degree in economics under Berhampur University. All teachers of this institution adopt modern ICT enabled teaching method for quality enhancement in education.
The college has a good campus having an area of 5.3 Acres land with the built up area of 3081 sq.mts. consisting of 32 rooms utilized as Class Rooms, Office, Library, Laboratory, IQAC, Seminar Hall, Smart Class Room, I.T. Lab, Common Rooms for teachers, boys’ and girls’ students. The institution is giving all efforts to enhance the quality infrastructure in the college.
The students of this college get information through college calendar about the mission and vision of the college, admission and academic programmes and support services. The post-matric scholarship and other financial benefits are provided to the students. College calendar is published every year for the benefits of the students. The creative literary talents of the students and staff are published in the college magazine named “Sarathi”, which is published every academic year. The student’s progression is highly visible in their results of their performance in the University Examinations of last four years. The pass percentage in these four years varies between 75% in 2011 to 98% in 2015. The students of this college participate in various extension activities under NSS to help services in the community. NSS volunteers and the programme officer participated in various state and national level camps and training programmes organised by various institutions. The students and the programme officer brought laurels to the this institution for their outstanding contributions and participation in NSS. Dr. P Sahu the Programme Officer of the college awarded best programme officer of NSS by the Berhampur University in 2015 and “Prakruti Bandhu Award 2015” for his contribution in conservation of environment by the Department of Forest and Environment, Govt. of Odisha.
The college is functioning under the dynamic leadership of our Principal Sri M.M.Pradhan supported by a team of active and dedicated teaching faculties to achieve the mission and vision of the college. The institution is managed by a Governing Body headed by the local M.L.A. (Minister of Women and Child Welfare, Govt. of Odisha) as its chairperson to monitor the academic and administrative activities of the college. The college management is taking all efforts to provide quality education to cater the higher educational needs of local students in the border region of the state. The institution adopts strategies for effective and efficient use of the financial resources for the growth and development of the institution. The Internal Quality Assurance Cell was established in 2014 to monitor quality assurance, academic audit, curricular development and capability enhancement of the teachers and students. Specific measures are taken by the college to improve the teaching-learning and evaluation process. The IQAC cell co-ordinates all the stake-holders for the sustenance of the quality education in the college.
The college adopts innovative strategies and best practices for enabling a conducive environment for quality teaching and to maintain an eco-friendly campus. The institution has initiated a programme for use of renewable energy, water harvesting system and e-waste management technique for better environment campus.
The college celebrates important days to keep up healthy tradition and culture in the institution. Several committees formed to maintain institutional and social responsibilities of the college and to fulfil its mission and vision.
All members of the college extend their full cooperation for the preparation of this Self Study Report for the reaccreditation of the institution by NAAC, for a brighter future of the institution.

Post Accreditation Initiatives Report
The institution has taken the following measures to fulfil the recommendations of the peer team visit during first accreditation of the college in March 2007.
As per recommendation of the peer team the college has introduced honours courses in Arts Subjects in Odia, History, Political Science and Economics. We have also started honours facilities in Science Stream in Mathematics, Physics, Botany and Zoology.
The college imparts Communicative English to both Arts and Science Students webbed in their curriculum.
The college has strengthened its laboratories with more equipment to meet requirement of honours subjects as per the syllabus of the Berhampur University.
Three new large sized Lecture Halls accommodating 160 Students have been added in the college to meet the enhanced students’ strength of the college.
Keeping in mind the recommendation of the peer team ICT based teaching has been introduced. The college has established a well furnished IT Lab having 12 Computers. The college has also provided computers to the department of Physics, Botany, Zoology, Library, SAMS and to the administrative staff of the office.
The College has also strengthened its Sports and Games facilities for the students, by Purchasing Sports and games equipments for conducting Inter College Competitions.
The students have been encouraged to participate in Cultural Activities like Debate, Dance and Music Competitions. For which student’s have brought laurels in different cultural events to the institution.
As per the recommendation of the peer team an Alumni Association has been formed and it is under the process of registration. The suggestions of Alumni Association are invited for the development of the institution.
