Your assignment is to write an argumentative essay on one of the topics below. Your essay must be organized as an argument in which you assert a precise claim, support it with reasons and evidence, and acknowledge and refute counterclaims fairly. You will be graded using the rubric on P. 84 of your Springboard.
1) First, pick one of the following topics.
Should we have standardized testing?
Does college matter?
Do teens spend too much time on social media?
Should the rich pay more taxes than other people?
Does violence in media (TV, movies, video games, etc.) have an effect on teens?
2) Find and print four articles. Two articles must support each side of your topic. For example, you would find two articles that give information supporting standardized testing and two articles that give information against standardized testing. Bring these to class on Tuesday, September 29, 2015. This is worth 25 Points.
3) Decide which side you are taking on your topic. Write a statement that shows which side you support. Example: I think students do not benefit from standardized testing.
