The Chapters of My Life” Personal Narrative Essay

Curriculum Expectations

WRV1: Developing and Organizing Content: generate, gather, and organize ideas and information to write for an intended purpose and audience.

WRV2: Using Knowledge of Form and Style: draft and revise their writing, using a variety of literary, informational, and graphic forms and stylistic elements appropriate for the purpose of audience.

WRV3: Applying Knowledge of Conventions: use editing, proofreading, and publishing skills and strategies, and knowledge of language conventions to correct errors, refine expression, and present their work effectively.

WRV3.7: Producing Finished Works: produce pieces of published work to meet criteria identified by the teacher, based on the curriculum expectations.
For the Short Story Unit summative assignment, you will write a personal narrative (500 words) about who you really are – what is the story of your life and where do you see yourself in the future. When finished, type your essay in complete sentences and paragraphs, including transitions to improve fluency and readability of your essay. Properly format your final copy using the Modern Language Association (MLA) formatting. All rough work, along with the final printed copy, must be submitted on the due date.

My Personal Story Narrative Essay Outline
Paragraph One: Introduction – Chapter One
WHO ARE YOU? In this paragraph, introduce yourself. Begin with “My name is….” and describe yourself:

*when and where you were born

*the names of your parents and siblings

*a brief description of your physical appearance

*choose three adjectives that best describe you!!
BODY PARAGRAPHS (3)The Chapters in your Life

Choose THREE of the following topics and write a paragraph for each. Each paragraph will be considered a chapter and you will be required to name this chapter in relation to the topic you have chosen. Each paragraph needs to be a minimum of 5 full and complete sentences.

Option #1: Tell your favorite childhood memory and explain how it influenced your life.
Option #2: Choose one person (past or present) that has had a positive impact in your life. Explain HOW and WHY? If you could say anything to them, what would you say?
Option #3: If you were to choose ONE song that would define who you are, what would it be? Make sure to describe it using specific line references and how these lines reflect you.
Option #4: What does success mean to you? How do you see it, live it, or plan on achieving it?
Option #5: What would be one negative experience in your life that you learned a valuable lesson from? If you were to replay that moment, how would change it?

Option #6: What is your favorite place in the world? Explain why and what would you do if you could live there forever?

Option #7: Name three material possessions and explain their importance in your life.
Option #8: Choose your own topic! Make sure you get it approved by me first 

What does your future hold for you? Where do you see yourself in 5 years, 10 years, 20 years…Where will your story take you??

If you really knew me…Personal Narrative

Chapter One: How it all began…

My name is Homer Simpson and I am a buxom, beauty of a man. I am 42 years old and was born and raised in the lovely little town of Springfield. I don’t have any siblings but I do have a gorgeous blue-haired wife, Marge, and three crazy kids: Bart, Lisa, and Maggie. I traditionally wear a white shirt and blue pants but occasionally, I appreciate a good leisure suit to show off my manly physique. If I were to describe myself, I would say that I am hilarious, fun loving, and always looking for a good time!

Chapter Two: Marge Simpson – the most amazing woman in my life

Marge, my loving wife, has had a very positive influence on my life….
