SURVIVAL SCENARIO
The Aliens Have Invaded
Beings from another planet, another galaxy, someplace other than Earth, have attacked. You are one of the surviving humans, and you must survive this terrible time in order to rally and plan a way to retake the planet. Perhaps the Martians have come to Earth and taken over. Maybe some unknown beings have attacked, trying to eradicate all planet life so they can strip-mine Earth’s natural resources. Perhaps the world has exploded and Earth is no more, nothing but a field of rubble and debris, and you were lucky enough to escape the destruction. Whatever the case, the aliens have arrived and you must survive.
In this essay you need to detail some key and essential facts about your struggle to survive the extraterrestrial beings who have come to you home planet with one thought in mind, complete and total takeover. Introduce the scenario: how did you end up here? Then provide information about some of your survival techniques, and the tools you have and need to survive. What items do you have, how did you get them, and what are they used for; how are they beneficial to your survival? Finally, you will conclude your essay, restating briefly some of the information you detailed, and hypothesizing what you feel your chance of survival in this situation would be.
GOOD INFORMATION TO KNOW AND RESEARCH:
Surroundings – where is your survival efforts taking place? What is the aftermath of the invasion? Are cities in ruins? Is the planet still whole, or has it been obliterated?
Survival Items – plan out what items you are going to discuss in your essay and look up how they are used, how you would get them or make them in this situation, and their potential cost.

War of the Worlds – Movie rated PG-13, more alien invasion and destruction.
War of the Worlds – Book about an alien invasion and destruction of Earth.
Battlestar Galactica – Series rated TV-14 where a race of robots has come and destroyed all the human colonies, wanted to exterminate the human race.
Titan A.E. – Movie rated PG and earth has been destroyed, displacing the surviving human populace throughout the galaxy.
The Host – Book about an alien invasion and parasitic takeover of the human race.
Ender’s Game – Book about hostile alien species and genetic manipulation to combat the invasion.
ESSAY REQUIREMENTS
6 Paragraph Minimum
Introduction – explain the scenario, what happened, how you ended up in that survival situation, and some of the tools you will need.
4 Body Paragraphs (minimum) – each detailing a different item, tool, or skill required for survival in your situation, how it is used, how is is obtained, etc.
Conclusion – Restating the information, situation and tools described, in order to bring the essay to an end.
Expository/Informational Format – this is not a story, you are giving information about how you would survive and the tools you will need/use

Students are encouraged to be creative and to have fun with this project, the goal is to inform, to learn how to utilize research to inform and audience on a topic.
