Initial Written Assessment – Religious Studies

  • As part of a whole college policy we need to test your written English (spelling, grammar, speed of writing and handwriting).

  • Firstly, we want you to research any one religion (or a maximum of two if you prefer). Select one or two from the list below:

  1. Buddhism

  2. Christianity

  3. Hinduism

  4. Judaism

  5. Islam

  6. Sikhism

  7. Jehovah’s Witnesses

  8. Mormon

  9. Zen

  10. Jainism

  11. Branch Davidson

  12. Zoroastrianism

  13. Shinto

  14. Rastafarianism

  15. Scientology

Or

  1. Atheism



  • You can research any information about the religion you like.

  • In a week’s time we will ask you to write a timed 24 minute essay in class, about your chosen religion. We have chosen 24 minutes because this is the length of your exam essays.

  • The question will be: “Explain all you know about ………………. (which ever religion(s) you have chosen).”

  • You will be allowed to use half a side of A4 notes/keywords to help guide you in the essay.

  • We will mark the essay on its content but the main emphasis will be an assessment of your written English (spelling, grammar, speed of writing and handwriting).
