This is what is known as a illustrative essay. Illustrative essays are used to explain, illustrate, a topic to your audience. Examples (the illustrative part) are used to help your audience “see” your argument. The examples which you use however, must be absolutely relevant to your topic. What is very important is that the examples, illustrations, you choose help your readers understand your argument.
To help you with this, please refer to chapter 13, “Illustration”, pp 339-71 in “Models for Writers”.
Think about your topic and what you want to say about it. Then do some research and find at least four examples which you will use to illustrate your point.
For this essay, you will be held to stricter guidelines: Your essay must be emailed to me; it must be in Times New Roman, 12 pt.; it must be double-spaced; each and every paragraph must have one indentation; you must have a title for your essay; your name must be on the essay and you must follow the guidelines I gave for email and file names.
