Extra Credit Opportunities

Each quarter you have the opportunity to earn some extra credit. All extra credit must be turned in NO later than the Friday before the end of the quarter.

  1. Make a map of the United States on a large poster board and identify at least 10 cities that have a large Spanish speaking population. Neatly label and decorate your project with interesting facts about each city. (5-10 points)

  2. Write a school appropriate movie script in Spanish, act it out and record it, then bring the movie in to share with the class. Points will be awarded for creativity and the way Spanish is used in the movie. This project can be done with other students, but the script must be written at your Spanish comprehension level. If a translator is used, ZERO points will be awarded. (5-20 points)

  3. Put together a portfolio of songs, poems, or tongue twisters in Spanish that YOU have created, and also write out what they mean in English. Then read/sing at least one of the songs/poems/tongue twisters for the class. If a translator is used, ZERO points will be awarded. (5-20 points)

  4. Write an essay, from your point of view, about a current event (political issue, festival, celebration, cultural tradition) from a Spanish speaking country. The essay must be a minimum of 2 FULL pages, have a title and a bibliography with a minimum of 3 sources. (5-15 points)

  5. Visit a Latin American festival or museum and write a 2 page essay on your experience, what you saw, what you liked/disliked, would you return, who attended with you, why you chose to go, what countries were represented, and any other information you feel is important to share. You must include the entrance fee receipt or ticket. (5-20 points)

  6. Use your imagination and creativity, and design a mural, mosaic, drawing, or painting of your choice. Your art work can represent anything to do with a Spanish speaking country, tradition, language, or culture. (5-20 points)

  7. Create a “mini altar” or “Ofrenda” to celebrate the day of the dead “Día De Los Muertos”. Write a 1 page essay describing your altar, who is represented, and why people celebrate “Día De Los Muertos”. (5-15 points)

  8. Make a piñata. Google “make a piñata”, and find a website that gives step by step instructions to create an original piñata. You must also write a 1 page essay on the traditional holidays or celebrations where piñatas are used, and your experience making your piñata. (5-20 points)

  9. Make 1 dozen “cascarones”. Google cascarones, and find a website that gives step by step instructions to create your original cascarones. You must also write a 1 page essay on the traditional holidays or celebrations where cascarones are used, and your experience making them. (5-20 pints)

  10. Create a blue print or map of our school. You must label 20 different areas in both Spanish and English on your blue print or map. Be colorful and creative. (5-20 points)

All extra credit will be kept in the classroom and used as decoration.
