SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION
REQUIREMENTS
APPLICANT:
√ MUST be a high school graduating senior or GED recipient and has been
accepted as a full time college student for the next fall semester.
√ MUST have a minimum 2.5 cumulative grade point average.
√ SHOULD be active in extra-curricular activities.
√ MUST be an African American Male living in Prince George's County.
√ MUST demonstrate financial need.
APPLICATION PROCEDURES:
√ All requested information must be typed.
On a separate page, write a short essay. (See Application Form for details.) Appearance, spelling and grammar will be considered in the evaluation of application.
Submit your most recent Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
√ Submit an official transcript that includes grades 9-12. Transcript MUST cite the cumulative grade point average and MUST be signed by a school official and display the official school seal.
√ Submit proof of acceptance to the college you will attend.
√ Submit two (2) letters of recommendation from two different sources. Persons writing recommendations should specify their relationship to the applicant or the capacity in which they know or have observed the applicant, i.e., teacher, pastor, principal, community leaders, mentor, etc.
√ Your Application Package should only consist of the following:
Pages 4 and 5 of the Application.
The college acceptance letter.
The transcript.
The essay.
Two letters of recommendation.
The FAFSA

Scholarships, with varying amounts up to $ 1,000.00, will be awarded to the institution in the student’s name.

Essay Writing Guidelines

The purpose of the essay is to assess your need and expository writing skills.
The content of your writing should be to develop your essay within the context of one or more of the societal concerns below:
Excessive high school dropout rates of male minorities and their low college attendance rates.
Poverty and deprivation caused by a proliferation of households headed by young single mothers; and
The ability of some to overcome systemic and historic disadvantages and become agents for social reform.
Feel free to choose some other content to tell your personal story.
Your composition should be limited to four pages (double-spaced) and word processed or typed.
