Zion Lutheran School has been selected to place a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery. This is a great honor.
The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is an official, symbolic grave honoring all the fallen soldiers who made the greatest sacrifice of all for our country. Participation in this solemn ritual is an honor and an opportunity for our students to represent Zion at an official event. Because it is such a serious ceremony, there are several qualifications the participants must meet. The Department of the Army requires that the students dress up for the occasion and act appropriately.
Although all of us on the trip will be present at the ceremony to view it, the Department of the Army allows only four participants for the laying of the wreath.
You will complete a five paragraph essay about the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. You will need to include an introduction, 3 body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The first 2 body paragraphs should be factual information and will be a description of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Explain the meaning of the monument and why it is guarded by soldiers, along with some of the qualifications to become a tomb guard. The third body paragraph should describe why it is important or significant for you to place the wreath on the tomb.
