| Title of Event : Second Annual Korean Essay Contest and Talent Show
Day & Time : Wednesday, May 27, 2009 5:00-8:30pm (Essay Contest : 5:00-6:00pm, Talent Show : 6:30-8:30pm) Place : HH178 University of California, Irvine Name of Organization : Korean Language Program, Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures, University of California, Irvine
This event is a second annual Korean composition contest and singing contest opening in UCI. The sponsor is the Korean Program from Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures. Target audiences are the students who are currently taking Korean classes in spring quarter at UCI. In 2008, Department of East Asian Languages and Literatures established major and minor in Korean Studies for the first time. We had to publicize that there were Korean Studies major/minor programs, and the event that was held in last year succeed in showing and enhancing Korean languages and Korean culture to many students. With many students’ participation, the event was successful with total of 132 students participating in writing contest and 18 teams participating in singing contest. Among them, 9 students from the writing contest were selected and 4 teams from the singing contest were selected as prizewinners. There are total of 133 students who are taking beginning to advanced Korean classes in spring quarter of 2009. This event will help the students to display their ability of what they have had learned in the class. They will have opportunity to experience Korean popular culture as well. Also, I hope there will be more students who are enrolling in Korean class to lead and grow Korean department through this event. We need about $2,000 for the event. This money will be used for dinner, Karaoke equipment, prizes and all of the necessary stuff for the event. I am sending the list of the expenses for the event: Expenses : About $2,000
