  1. Tanks of World War I

Students will work in a group to create a battery powered tank, in the style of a WWI tank. Students will need to describe the tanks purpose, when tanks were used, and how successful they were. Students will also need to write a paragraph describing what it was like riding in a WWI tank in battle.



You are responsible for the following:

  1. What was the purpose of the tank in World War I?

  2. When were tanks used, and by which countries?

  3. How successful were the tanks of World War I?

  4. Compose an essay describing what it was like to be a tanker in World War I. This essay should be a first-person narrative.



  1. Airplanes of World War I

Students will work in a group to create a rubber band powered WWI biplane. Students will need to discuss the use of airplanes in the war, give the type of plane they created, the nation it flew for, and discuss the lives of some of the Aces of WWI. Students will also need to write a paragraph describing what it was like to be a pilot in World War I.



You are responsible for the following:

  1. What were airplanes used for in World War I?

  2. What type of plane did you create?

  3. Which nation did this plane fly for?

  4. Compose an essay describing what it was like to be a pilot in World War I. This essay should be a first-person narrative.



  1. Submarine Warfare of World War I

As a group, students will work together to make a chart of the tonnage of supplies sunk by German U-boats in WWI. You will also describe submarine warfare, and the defense against it. Students will also need to write a paragraph describing what it was like to be a submariner in World War I.
