EXECUTIVE SUMMARY-SWOC ANALYSIS

Govt. College Indora, nestled in the foot hills of Shivalika Range of Westen Himalayas came into being in November 1995 in the pious land of ‘Kathgarh Mahadev’. It is situated at Indora in District Kangra of Himachal Pradesh at a distance of 18 Km from Pathankot and 9 km away from Mirthal NH-1A. It is nearly 100 Km from Dharamshala the District Headquarter of Kangra District(H.P) and also known as “ Fruits Basket” of H.P. The campus is spread over an area of 7.10 Acre in sylvan surrounding that blesses it with an unmatched serenity. The built up area of the college is 5000 square meter. The area has tremendous history and heritage with glorious past of having a great ‘Danveer’ Rai Bahadhur Choudhary Malha Singh, who has donated a lot of land for the various development of the area. One of them is opening a primary school at Indora in 1875 by British Government. With the passage of time the foundation stone of middle school in the memory of Choudhary Sunder Singh- father of Rai Bahadhur Choudhary Malha Singh was laid down by Deputy Commissioner (Col. Buck) of Kangra District in 1916. In 1971, school was taken over by the Government of Himachal Pradesh and in 1986 it was upgraded to Senior Secondary School which has the distinction of nourshing and culturing the students of the area which include prominent Late. Sh Dev Anand an Indian Bollywood actor and film producer. In the year 1995 the Government of Himachal Pradesh opened the college by sharing the building of Government Senior Secondary School. The college got newly constructed, well furnished and well equipped three storey building in the year 2008.

Affiliated to Himachal Pradesh University Shimla. The college is a co-educational institution affiliated to Himachal Pradesh University Shimla. College offer Bachelor Degree in various major subjects in Languages ,Humanities, Commerce and Science . Since college is situated at the border area of Punjab so it not only caters to the need of higher education of the students of Himachal but also attracts a large number of students from Punjab including army personnel since army units of Mirthal, Kandrori, Nangal and Pathankot falls under its catchment area. The admission to B.A,B.Com and B.Sc of sixth semester degree course , is done as per Himachal Pradesh University/ Government of Himachal Pradesh norms. The college is fully financed by the Government of Himachal Pradesh and is recognized by Himachal Pradesh University Shimla with शस्त्रे शास्त्रे च कौशलम as its motto. The college has a team of highly qualified, dedicated and innovative teachers .With the passage of time, the institution has

excelled in the sphere of academic, cultural, sports and co-curricular activities and has emerged as one of the leading institutions of higher learning of Himachal Pradesh. It is land mark in the history of college that Mr. Hermeet Singh a student of this college ,represented INDIA in the World Universities Judo Championship held at Gwangju, South Korea in 2016.One more feather was added to the cap by hosting 2017-18 successfully. All India Inter-University Yachting championship 2017-18 under the aegis of H.P.U Shimla at Pong Dam.It was a proud moment for an college when h.P.Uwon 2nd Runner-up trophy in All India Inter-University Yachting due to the best effort by our college student. The total number of students admitted to the college in different courses during the academic session 2017-18 is 1297.

To serve the people of the region, through education the college followed the procedure to start educational course since 1995. In physical resources, the college has 6 lecture theatre, 15 class rooms, 2 Physics Laboratories, 2 Chemistry Laboratories, a Botany Laboratory, a Zoology Laboratory, a Geography Laboratory ,a Language Laboratory and a Hi-Tech Computer Laboratory .The entire campus is fully Wi-Fi . The college has a Examination Hall with the seating capacity more than 150 students.



In order to achieve excellence and high impact locally and globally, the college has ‘Career Guidance and Counseling Cell’ that helps the students about the various avenues and areas open to them in the competitive world. To give special assistance to students belonging to weaker sections of society, the college has been financed by Government of Himachal Pradesh under equity fund. The college has a Computer Laboratory with internet facility, photocopier, scanner and printer for the benefit of the students. The college has one unit under National Service Scheme (NSS) which inculcates social and moral values including leadership, sense of responsibility and dignity of labour among the volunteers. The college is running Red Ribbon Club in order to spread AIDS awareness among youth and society. The college has also a unit of Rovers and Rangers which is doing a commendable job in generating a sense of “Service above Self”. The college also provides opportunities to excel in games and sports. The old students association has been registered through which the old students contribute for the betterment and development of the college. Parent Teacher Association is as integral part of this institution which acts like a bridge between the college and the local people for the overall development of the institution. The college has a College Students’ Central Association (CSCA), the office bearers and members of which are nominated by the college administration on basis of marks

secured by students in Board /University examination. The college is working for establishment of UGC resource centre where the students will have an access to internet for the betterment of their career. Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) has been established in the college for the promotion of the quality of the education and infrastructure development as per requirement of the UGC and the NAAC. The college has been continuously pacing and piercing ahead under the patronage of the Government of Himachal Pradesh with creative team of 20 faculty members with total strength of 1297 in humanities, Commerce and Science. The college has an IGNOU Study centre which offers undergraduate, post graduate and diploma courses in various subjects. CBCS under RUSA has been introduced since 2013-14 session.
