The purpose of this scholarship is to encourage and reward the study of occupational health and safety at The University of Queensland.
The key features of this scholarship is:
A total payment of $12 000 (payable over four semesters)

WHAT DOES PARTICIPATION IN THE SCHOLARSHIP MEAN?
WHO CAN APPLY:
The Scholarship is available to BOHSSc(Hons) students with a planned graduation date of December 2018.
WHAT BENEFITS YOU RECEIVE:
The Scholarship offered by Rio Tinto Aluminium will entitle the recipient to an annual cash payment of $6 000 to offset fees and other study expenses. Rio Tinto Aluminium may also offer the scholarship holder vacation employment at a Rio Tinto Aluminium site during the period in which the recipient holds the scholarship.
WHAT UQ REQUIRES FROM YOU:
The scholarship holder will be required to fulfil the following obligations:
Maintain full-time enrolment and satisfactory attendance in the Bachelor of Occupational Health and Safety Science (Hons) course at the University of Queensland until the completion of the scholarship.
Maintain a GPA of 4 in academic results and progress during the year.
APPLICATION PROCESS:
Interested students will be invited to submit a brief covering letter making application for the scholarship and outlining how Rio Tinto Aluminium’s scholarship will assist them and include the following attachments:
ACADEMIC RECORD
This should include a copy of your complete record of tertiary education results.
RESUME
This should include all previous work history and qualifications and experiences you believe are relevant to your application.
SHORT ESSAY
The essay, of no more than one page, should outline the following:
Academic achievements
Leadership - details (including years involved) of any leadership positions currently or previously held
Summarise what interests you about studying Occupational Health & Safety and how these studies fit in with your future plans.
SELECTION PROCESS:
The scholarship will be awarded to the applicants with the greatest merit as demonstrated by:
(a) academic achievement in tertiary studies; and
(b) supporting essay; and
(c) any other matter that the selection committee considers to be relevant to the applicant’s future success in the occupational health and safety sphere.
Shortlisted applicants will be required to undertake an interview with the selection panel.
