The Medical Assistant program is designed to train students in the patient-related aspects of health care settings. Students will learn both the administrative and clinical duties to best prepare them for employment in a doctor’s office or hospital. Graduates of this program will be able to obtain a patient’s history, take vital signs, perform routine tests, and assist the physician by preparing the room and the patient for exams. Graduates will also be able to handle front desk operations, such as scheduling appointments, greeting patients, and properly handling telephone calls and correspondence. Graduates of the Medical Assistant program will be eligible to sit for the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) exam.
Each medical assistant student is required to submit verification of Hepatitis B and MMR vaccinations, as well as the results of a TB test. Students must supply their own lab coats. Prior to MA122, each student must have a physical examination by his or her physician.
