In continuation of ongoing programmes, the Ministry will take matters to another level to bring total transparency by using complete online system for releasing grants in MoC.

To evaluate all the schemes by carrying out proper impact evaluation studies to as to review and modified schemes during XII Plan, as deemed necessary.

New Schemes proposed to be implemented in XII Plan

This scheme has been merged with Ongoing Schemes.


Gandhi Peace Prize

Government of India announced institution of an annual international Gandhi Peace Prize for social, economic and political transformation through non-violence and other Gandhian methods as a part of celebration of 125th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.



The recipient of this prize is selected by the Jury headed by Hon’ble Prime Minister in accordance with the prescribed code of procedure.

Promoting Gandhian values.

Nominations are invited from competent persons by 30th April each year as per the code of procedure.

No GPP is given since 2005.

Synopsis on each nominee are prepared and compiled in a booklet.


Centenaries and Anniversary Scheme

To provide financial assistance to voluntary organizations for celebration of centenary/ anniversary celebrations of important personalities and events. Three new commemorations have been approved for this financial year, viz., 125th Birth anniversary of Shri Jawaharlal Nehru (14.11.2014 – 14.11.2015); Centenary of Begum Akhtar (07.10.2014 – 07.10.2015); Centenary of Kamagata Maru (29.09.2014 – 29.09.2015)



A number of voluntary organizations identified for financial assistance for celebration of centenary/ anniversary of important personalities/ events.
Committed liabilities for various programmes organized for celebration of Birth Centenary of Lal Bahadum Shastri, Rabindranath Tagore, Swami Vivekananda, 1st war of independence, 1857, etc. will also be taken care of during the year 2014-15.

Creation of awareness about the contribution of the commemorated personalities/ events.

International Cultural activities and grants to Indo-Foreign Friendship Societies

To faster closer friendship and cultural contacts between India and foreign country concerned, and strengthen goodwill for Indian culture through friendship societies.



Indian Missions are granted funds through authorization under this scheme for Indo-Foreign Friendship Societies for promotion of Indian culture.

During 2014-15, it is proposed to give grant to 96 India Missions abroad on the basis of their demand.

There are no specific measurable targets that can be achieved. However, the main objectives of the scheme are as follows:

(i) Promote Indian culture abroad.

(ii) Strengthen bonds with India

(iii) Promotes bilateral cultural contacts.

(iv)Projecting of India’s cultural image abroad.

Scheme on Intangible Culture Heritage




Scheme for safeguarding and other protective measures in the area of Intangible Heritage and Cultural Diversity (arising out of UNESCO Convention)

In order to meet the obligations arising from the UNESCO conventions on the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage and cultural diversity



There are no fixed targets individuals/organizations involved in Cultural activities and are assisted on the basis of receipt of proposals and recommendations of the Expert Committee.

To safeguarding ICH and Cultural diversity.

This scheme is considered for merger with other ongoing/ new schemes.


Scheme of Sustaining the Living and Diverse Cultural Traditions of India

To provide sustenance to and showcase the richness of living and diverse cultural traditions of India.



It is proposed to set up a coordination mechanism on Intangible Cultural Heritage i.e. the living and diverse cultural traditions of India, with the specific task of documentation through various media.

Indirectly helping the research scholars on the Living and Diverse Cultural Traditions of India.

New Schemes proposed to be implemented in XII Plan

This scheme is being considered for merger with Ongoing Schemes.


Tagore Award for Promotion of Cultural Harmony

As a part of commemoration of 150th Birth Anniversary of Rabinkranath Tagore, this award was announced by Hon’ble Prime Minister in the inaugural function.



Tagore award to the selected nominee would be given on the pattern of Gandhi Peace Prize.

Promotion and dissemination of Cultural work of Rabindranath Tagore.

Financial Assistance for the Preservation and Development of Buddhist/ Tibetan Organizations

To promote and propagate the scientific development of Buddhist/ Tibetan culture and Art.



Depending upon the receipt of eligible applications and subject to recommendation of the Expert Advisory Committee.

Ministry of Culture advertises in the leading newspapers requesting for the eligible organizations to apply under the Buddhist Scheme duly recommended and forwarded by the State Government. On receipt of the applications, this Ministry places the same before the Expert Advisory Committee for their recommendations.

Preservation and development of Buddhist/Tibetan Art and Culture.

The number of proposals to be approved by the Expert Committee will depend upon the quality of the project and capability of the organizations.
