The Library will continue to acquire new books, pamphlets, newspapers, periodicals, microfilms, still photographs, motion pictures, sound recording and other materials having a bearing on the history of Modern India with special reference to the Freedom Movement.


The pre-eminent position of the NMML Library in the world of Social Science scholarship will sustain with the addition of new books, periodicals, e-books & e-journals etc.

It is an ongoing activity and major objective of NMML.

Development of Museum



To maintain and upkeep of the Museum of Jawaharlal Nehru Personalia, memorabilia, mementos and other objects pertaining to his life and the Indian freedom movement.

Conservation of museum objects; Setting up of security and surveillance system; Up-gradation and renovation of museum building; Repair of roof and plugging of leakages; Maintenance of permanent exhibitions; Maintenance of Jawahar, Indira and Rajiv Jyoties; Printing of Museum brochure in Hindi and English; Installation of metallic sign boards; Seminar-cum-workshops for museum professionals; Training to museum staff; organizing of temporary multimedia exhibition; procurement of color printers; Renovation/ procurement of new show cases/ rags.

New initiatives will attract more visitors to the Museum.

It will be a regular activity.

Maintenance of Nehru Planetarium
Strengthening of the Manuscripts Division,

Reprography Services, Nehru Learning Centre for Children and Youth (Children Resource Centre)




Nehru Planetarium of NMM&L is the only planetarium in the Capital and its programmes stimulate scientific interest among the children.

NMML endeavors constantly to maintain and enhance the reputation of Nehru Planetarium as a center of academic excellence to acquire advance telescopes. Relating to astronomy & space. To organize workshops & courses in astronomy for science students. & amature astronomers to provide facility to optics laboratory for students.

- 2 microfilm, old and rare research material. To procure raw microfilms and microfilm readers and digital, scanner, printer, etc.

- All the activities and programmes regarding Pt. Jawahar lal Nehru name’ associated with children will be conducted with a aim of bringing its the legacy and values. To make children aware and popularized ideas and vision of Jawahar Lal Nehru. Also to undertake a large number of activities for children i.e. Nature/ History walks, inter active workshops films and place, etc.


The Planetarium sky shows educate the children.


  • Additional and new Reprography equipment will help us in increasing the output of microfilm production and thereby reduce the backlog.




  • Organizing (i) summer workshop for young children; (ii) children’s fortnight; (iii) value addition to visiting groups; (iv) Dhanak Din Bal Mela; (v) national workshop etc.

It is an ongoing process.

Provisioning of hostel accommodation to scholars.

To conserve diverse and rich natural heritage.


To interview important personalities from North East, organize seminars, conferences on North-East and collection of archival material on North-East.

The natural features endowed with beautiful gardens and woodlands will be further enhanced by providing formal, semi-formal gardens/ parks and some stretches in semi natural wilderness including inhabitant of peacocks.
-To make efforts to broaden the knowledge of the North-East Region.

Enhancing the learning quotient of rich natural heritage, as a modal bio-diverse, ecologically sound gardens.

- To organize archival events viz lectures & conferences on themes related to the North East.

Engaged in reorganization and renovation of galleries housing unique treasures of Indian and foreign art representing centuries of cultural ethos and tradition.

The objectives include refurbishing, modernization & renovation of different galleries and reserve collections with updated arrangements and techniques.

-To meet the contingent expenditure Activities related to furtherance of museum activities Internal repair of galleries, equipments etc. including AMC.



Modernization and renovation of different galleries and reserve collections will attract more tourists and will enhance India’s culture, ethos and tradition.

Security and conservancy activities. Exhibitions to be mounted as per their action plan. Exhibition on Buddha, Galleries space on Buddha relics, exhibitions in collaboration with major museums in India and Kolkata will be held.

Publications of books and reprints along with the special numbers on Indian Museum Bulletin (Spl.bi-centenary will be brought out.



The Research collection history, history of natural history, studies on Indian museum visitors would also be taken up and final reports to be brought out. Bi-centenary fellowships to Junior and Senior fellows in Musicologist in Residence (National/ International), etc

Safeguarding the precious and unique treasure from theft.

Salar Jung Museum, Hyderabad

A museum of national importance houses rare and varied art collection from all over the globe acquired by Salar Jung I, II and III.
