Government of India announced institution of an annual international Gandhi Peace Prize for social, economic and political transformation through non-violence and other Gandhian methods as a part of celebration of 125th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
The recipient of this prize is selected by the Jury headed by Hon’ble Prime Minister in accordance with the prescribed code of procedure.
Promoting Gandhian values.
Nominations are invited from competent persons by 30th April each year as per the code of procedure.
No GPP is given since 2005.
Synopsis on each nominee are prepared and compiled in a booklet, which is then put up to the Jury for selection of an awardee.
National Culture Fund (NCF)
The NCF’s objective is to explore itself, to work with more and more people, take initiatives to call for more collaboration with Corporate Sector and to make the people aware that only with their co-operation the culture will flourish.
NCF has revived 4 projects and initiated 3 new projects. It is proposed to sign a number of new MoUs. Implementation of the projects sanctions by Chairman of NCF will also be taken up.

To celebrate the Centenary/Anniversary of important personalities and events
This Head includes all the Programmes covered under Celebration and Anniversaries Scheme.
Setting up of two Lal Bhadur Shastri Polytechnics at Indore (Madhya Pradesh) and Manda (Uttar Pradesh).
Setting up of Lal Bahadur Shastri Chair at the Institute of Defence Studies and Analyses, New Delhi.
Annual Maintenance grant to Lal Bahadur Shastri Memorial Trust, New Delhi
Rs. 8.00 crore was approved for setting up of two polytechnics at Allahabad and Manda.
Rs.4 Crore (Rs.2 crore each during the year 2010-11 and 2011-12) has been released. Out of Rs.2 crore available (Rs.1 crore has been surrendered as ‘savings’ under this head will be released during the current financial year 2012-13.
Reimbursement of actual expenditure incurred on this permanent chair will be done. Funds for maintenance of the Memorial are proposed to be provided under the Non-Plan Scheme of financial assistance for maintenance of memorials.
The balance amount of Rs.3.00 Crores is excepted to released n 2013-14 and 2014-15.
The two polytechnics will be completed in 2013-14 and 2014-15.
To highlight the sacrifices of our great heroes / leaders who laid their life for freedom of the country and to pay home-age to them. To make aware the people especially young generation about the history of our freedom struggle to infuse into them the spirit of the National Integration and also highlight the achievement of Nation in various areas in past 60 years.
The residual items of work as approved by the NIC are being taken up during the year in the memory of great heroes/ leaders to educate the people. Funds ear marked for the approved projects are being spent on the residual works.
The projects which were approved by the NIC are being taken up which will promote National integration and will help in restoration/ maintenance of the places connected with the Event.
Completion of the projects depends upon the availability of funds. However, the projects may be completed by 2013-14.
Celebration of 2550th Anniversary of Mahaparinirvana of Lord Buddha
Construction of Dormitory with Kitchen by Ananda Buddha Vihara Trust. Secunderabad, Andhra Pradesh.
Out of approved amount of Rs.1.00 crore, an amount of Rs. 50.00 lakh as 1st installment was released. Due to non receipt of the reasons for delay in submitting the Utilization Certificate of 1st installment of grant, the 3rd installment of Rs.10.00 lakh allocated under this head could not be released in 2012-13.
Government of India’s share of funding will be completed after such release.
To highlight salient aspects of the important events relating to Khalsa Heritage in order to infuse in the public, particularly the young, the spirit of these great events.
Funds for Khalsa Heritage Projects are released to Punjab Govt. as 1/3rd share of Central Govt. (Plan) as reimbursement of the amount spent on the project on quarterly basis.
*Provision for this scheme has been included under Centenaries and Anniversary Scheme.
To create Awareness of the important events and also to highlight the spirit of these great events.

In case the entire amount of Rs.6.00 crores is released during the current year, an amount of Rs.1.55 crores is the balance amount payable as per the committed liability of Govt. of India.
