Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 15 July 2015 formally launched four initiatives- National Policy for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship 2015, National Skill Development Mission (NSDM), Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) and Skill Loan scheme-aimed at achieving the vision of Skill India.
They were launched in a programme held on the occasion of first-ever World Youth Skills Day in New Delhi.
The four initiatives are aimed at making India as a hub of world’s human resource capital.
National Policy for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship 2015: It is the second such policy on skill development since independence and intended to replace the National Policy on Skill Development 2009 by adding entrepreneurship to the policy framework.
National Skill Development Mission (NSDM): The mission is intended to operationalise the National Policy for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship 2015. It has seven sub missions under it that are monitored by a Governing Council under the chairmanship of Prime Minister.
Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY): It is a demand-driven, reward-based skill training scheme. Under the scheme, besides assessing and certifying 10 lakh youth for the skills they already possess, around 24 lakh youth will be skilled over the next year.
Skill Loan scheme: Under the scheme, loans ranging from 5000-1.5 lakhs rupees will be made available to 34 lakh youth to attend skill development programmes. It will be operational between 2015 and 2020.
Union Government, Facebook launched #100Women Initiative to recognize 100 women achievers of India
The Union Ministry of Women and Child Development on 14 July 2015 launched the #100Women Initiative in collaboration with Facebook to select 100 women achievers of India.
The initiative is aimed at recognizing and acknowledging women who are making a difference in their communities across the country.
Process of selection
• To select 100 women achievers, a contest will be held through public nominations via social media.
• Nominations are accepted between 15 July 2015 and 30 September 2015 on the Facebook page of the Ministry.
• Voting will begin on 27 November 2015 on the top 200 entries as determined by an esteemed jury.
• Winners will be announced in December 2015 and invited to join a reception organized by the Ministry around the Republic Day.
Union Ministry of Urban Development launched nationwide HRIDAY scheme from Amritsar
Union Ministry of Urban Development on 14 July 2015 launched the National Heritage Development and Augmentation Yojana (HRIDAY) for 12 cities in the country from Amritsar in Punjab.
The scheme seeks to preserve and rejuvenate the rich cultural heritage of the country in the selected 12 cities in the country, including Amritsar.
The scheme was launched by Union Minister of Finance, Corporate Affairs and Information & Broadcasting Arun Jaitley in the presence of Union Minister of Urban Development Venkaiah Naidu and Chief Minister of Punjab Singh Badal among others.
Features of HRIDAY
• It seeks to promote an integrated, inclusive and sustainable development of heritage sites, focusing on maintenance of monuments and on advancement of the entire ecosystem.
• In the initial phase of HRIDAY, 12 heritage cities have been identified which will be rejuvenated and developed. Union Government will provide 500 crore rupees to these 12 cities.
• Physical, institutional, economic and social infrastructure developed as part of the scheme in the identified cities.
• It will be completely funded by the Union Government to create infrastructure and provide facilities around the heritage sites to attract more tourists.
MPEDA launched mobile-based applications to help farmers capture data through mobile
The Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) on 9 July 2015 launched two mobile based applications to help farmers get prices on shrimp and capture data on aquaculture through mobile. Moreover, MPEDA also revamped its website and launched an online registration portal for exporters.
MPEDA is a nodal agency for promotion of marine exports from India under Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
These two mobile-based applications are:
Shrimp price Information over SMS by a missed call
With this application, MPEDA will provide price related market information of Vannamei shrimp and BT shrimp to farmers over SMS on a missed call to a predetermined number. On receipt of the missed call, information on price of Vannamei shrimp and BT shrimp for different grades in major markets like Japan, USA and EU will be provided by SMS.
Farmers can dial +918590100800 for getting price information on Vannamei shrimp and can call +918590200800 for getting price information on BT shrimp. The prices are obtained from published data of INFOFISH (an Inter governmental organization of FAO).
This price information to farmers will provide them the current market trends enabling them to make an informed decision on harvest of their produce. The service will be provided free of cost to farmers.
mKRISHI- Mobile App for Aquaculture Operations
The authority also launched a mobile applications named mKRISHI that will provide an easy tool for book keeping, advisory services and weather informations. It is an Android mobile application which has been developed by MPEDA and TCS Innovation Lab, Mumbai (as part of its CSR initiative).
For using this app, farmers will require an android mobile handset (post 2013 models) with a data/GPRS connection (2G, 3G or WiFi). The Farmer needs to enter the basic information regarding his farming activities and in return he will get expert guidance for all operations.
The reports can be seen in the graphical format. An option to view the trends or reports in the computer is also provided to give seamless data entry and visualization. The App will also help in resolving farmer’s issues quickly on a more personalized approach.
Currently, mKrishi is under pilot project in Gujarat and will be extended all over India in the next three months.
Online MPEDA Registration portal for Exporters
The registration of an exporter with MPEDA is a mandatory requirement under MPEDA Act, 1972. With this MPEDA registration portal by NIC, exporters will be expected to fill in their application form online with their Login ID and can also pay the fee online for which a payment gateway has been developed.
The mandatory documents are to be scanned and uploaded online by the applicant which will be verified by the registering authority. After due process, the Certificate of registration will be generated. The objective of the new system is to facilitate ease of doing business.
