PM Narendra Modi launched Deendayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana in Patna


The Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi on 25 July 2015 launched Deendayal Upadhyay Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY) along with various other development projects in Patna.

The Prime Minister also launched the following projects:

Inaugurated the Daniawan-Bihar Sharif new railway line

Flagged off the Rajgir-Bihar Sharif-Daniawan-Fatuha passenger train and Patna-Mumbai AC Suvidha Express

Inaugurated campus of IIT Patna

Laid the foundation stone for Incubation Centre for Medical Electronics, Patna

Inaugurated the construction of the first phase of the Jagdishpur-Haldia pipeline project

These projects will provide development and improve the quality of life of the people in the State.



About DeenDayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana (DDUGJY)

The DeenDayal Upadhyaya Gram Jyoti Yojana for rural areas was launched to fulfil the following objectives:

To provide electrification to all villages

Feeder separation to ensure sufficient power to farmers and regular supply to other consumers

Improvement of Sub-transmission and distribution network to improve the quality and reliability of the supply

Metering to reduce the losses

The Scheme has an outlay of 76000 crore rupees for implementation of the projects under which Union Government shall provide Grant of 63000 crore rupees.

The benefits of the scheme will be:

All villages and households shall be electrified

Increase in agriculture yield

Business of Small and household enterprises shall grow resulting into new avenues for employment

Improvement in Health, Education, Banking (ATM) services

Improvement in accessibility to radio, telephone, television, internet and mobile

Betterment in social security due to availability of electricity

Accessibility of electricity to schools, panchayats, hospitals and police stations

Rural areas shall get increased opportunities for comprehensive development



India ranked 12th in terms of power generation from nuclear source


With the total power generation from nuclear reactors at 5308 MWe, India is ranked 12th in the world in terms of power generation from nuclear sources.

This was revealed by Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State for Atomic Energy and Space in a reply to an unstarred question in Lok Sabha on 22 July 2015 though the data with respect to this was published by Power Reactor Information System (PRIS) of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in May 2015.

Further, in terms of number of nuclear reactors in operation, India was ranked at 7th position with 21 reactors.

The released data further said that there are 31 countries including India in the world that generate electricity from nuclear source.

Moreover, with 437 nuclear reactors in operation in world, the total power generation from nuclear stood at 377986 MWe.

Current status of Indian nuclear energy programme

The installed nuclear power capacity of India is expected to increase from 5780 MWe to 10080 MWe on progressive completion of projects under commissioning or construction by 2019.
Financial sanction and administrative approval for Gorakhpur Haryana Anu Vidyut Pariyojana (GHAVP) Units – 1&2 (2X700 MW) and Kudankulam Units- 3&4 (2X1000 MW) with a total capacity of 3400 MW has been accorded by the Government.

In addition, one Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor of 500 MW capacity at Kalpakkam, Tamil Nadu is at advanced stage of commissioning. Construction of two more Fast Breeder Reactors (FBR 1&2) of 600 MWe capacity each at Kalpakkam, Tamil Nadu is also planned.

Besides, India has signed nuclear agreements with USA, France, Russia, Namibia, Mongolia, Republic of Korea, Argentine Republic, United Kingdom, Republic of Kazakhstan, Canada, Sri Lanka and Australia.

Union Government launched Surakshit Khadya Abhiyan


Union Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Ram Vilas Paswan on 21 July 2015 launched the Surakshit Khadya Abhiyan, a countrywide campaign, to create mass awareness and capacity building for safe and hygienic food.

The initiative complements the widely popular multi-media campaign Jago Grahak Jago which empowers the consumers of its rights and demands. This campaign, planned by CII and Consumer Organization VOICE, and National Association of Street Vendors of India (NASVI), is an effort towards building a culture of food safety in the country.

Under the campaign, nationwide sensitisation sessions on cleaning, hygiene & sanitation for safe food, Walkathons and Media dissemination programmes for Consumers, Street Food Industries will be organized across the country.

The ministry also launched a website and a logo of the campaign and also signed a pledge for adopting safe food practices.



Union Government launched National Career Counselling portal


Union Government on 20 July 2015 launched National Career Counselling Portal to modernize all government-run employment exchanges. The portal was launched under the aegis of National Career Service (NCS) project of Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship.
The portal aims to bring on board around 20 million job seekers already registered with employment exchanges across India. It also aspires to bring 900000 establishments and companies on the portal.

NCS project aims at transforming all the government-run employment exchanges.

Highlights of the National Career Counselling portal

• The web portal will be a one-stop platform for both job providers and job seekers where registration can be done online.

• It will offer registration for job aspirants and employers for free. But to avoid misuse, job seekers will be required to link their Aadhar number when registering with the website.

• The companies and organizations will need to submit their society registrations or company registration certificate copies while getting empanelled on the job portal.

• It will provide basic platform for searching and applying for jobs on the portal.

• It will provide candidates career-related counselling either by its helpline numbers or visiting these centres.

• It will also help candidates on job posting, aptitude assessment, job matching, training providers, skill courses and guidance on self-employment and entrepreneurship.
