Example Summary:
Daniel Cohen’s essay “Man-Made Monsters” shows that the perception of the monster Frankenstein has changed over time. Mary Shelley was inspired by current events, as body snatching was a flourishing practice and gave her the idea for the monster. The original Frankenstein was created from limbs and organs of cadavers. But the monster is perceived differently in the book than in the movie. In the book, the monster is malicious, articulate, and intelligent. However, in the movie, his appearance is scarier because his face is cross-stitched, and be becomes unintelligent, speaking only in mumbles and grunts.
