ADMIN TEAM NOTES

SHIVON

As many of you know, I was a co-founder of Hollyhock, on Cortes Island, in 1982, and though no longer in the Board, I remain involved, and it will always be a place very dear to my heart.  If you are curious about the history and the current vision of this remarkable place, here is a link to an in-depth radio interview with Hollyhock Board Chair Joel Solomon.

http://cirh.streamon.fm/listen-pl-831  (Fun fact - Joel was the recipient of my left kidney 8 years ago.)
Now, back to singing!!
~ Shivon

GLORIA

I’m in an administration mood with this note….a couple of reminders about receipts for The Caia Connection and The Power of Hope.

  1. Caia Connection - our project in Mozambique. Please make sure you pick up your receipts next week if you haven’t already done so.

  2. The Power of Hope - - we will be re-sending by email, all of the receipts for donations made during 2015. Please check you email inbox in the next few days for your receipt. If you have a question please contact Caroline Weatherhead at caroline@gatherings.ca

Thanks everyone – see you in the singing circle.

~ Gloria

ADMIN TEAM SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
From time to time Shivon, Denis, Gloria or Bill will use this section to announce activities and events that they are involved in, or support, outside of their normal work for the choirs and the CCLT.
SYRIAN REFUGEE SPONSORING UPDATE
Last week in the newsletter I put out an invitation for some others to join a small group of us that had formed to sponsor a Syrian Refugee family. That notice brought forth exactly who and how many we needed to fill out our group to an optimum size, and for that I am grateful!
And, since last week, we have been assigned a family - all we know at this point is that they are a mother and father in their 30s, two young sons aged 8 & 10, and the mum’s 19 year old brother.
We have no idea at this point how long it will take them to arrive.

But in the meantime  we will be looking for all kinds of items, big and small, to help them start a life in their new home, and we’ll also be looking for a 3-bedroom house or apartment to rent.  Please keep this in mind if you are on the verge of downsizing, and looking for a welcome home for any furniture, bedding, or other gently used household goods. I will make a more specific request in weeks or months to come, but for now, just putting out a heads-up. I’d also love to be in touch with any other refugee-sponsoring groups in our large choir community.

Mostly I just want to share with you all my joy at being able to participate in this small way in the current crisis of so many displaced people in the world.
~ Shivon

LOOKING FOR A HOME!
GHC Tuesday Soprano Trish Barclay has been commuting to choir from a temporary abode on Saltspring and is trying to find a home in the Victoria area as soon as possible. She has this to say about that:
Howdy partners in choir…
I’ve just recently moseyed on into town from Quebec and am hoping to make Victoria (or surrounding area) home. But to make that possible I need a home, something cabin-in-the-woodsy, to rent or buy. I need green and cozy. I’m hoping you might be able to help me. You’ve already been so helpful by making me feel welcome in your Getting’ Higher community. You’re a one-of-a-kind crew of crooners! I’d be much obliged if you contacted me, Trish, with any leads. epzbarclay@gmail.com or 519-276-8444.
Other Tuesday members will probably have noticed her as the smiley bouncy Soprano who usually stands up by the piano. Soundings fans who were at their last concert will know her as the woman who played fiddle in the Celtic medley with Denis.

DONATED TICKET FUND
In past seasons the collective generosity of our membership has resulted in 20 to 30 people coming to hear each concert who could not have afforded to pay for tickets themselves and would have had to miss the exquisite aural experience that we so humbly offer.

If you like the idea and wish donate the price of a ticket (or two or a few or even part of one) please see whoever is selling tickets during the break. Please make cheques payable to the Power Of Hope

Entering The Concert Home Stretch
A GHC CHOIR COMMUNITY CONCERT PROMO HEADS-UP (repeat for emphasis)

We members of the GHC, HNC, Soundings & CCLT choir community are the backbone of each GHC season's concert promotion efforts and the high audience turn-out at our concerts is always the result of our collective promotional activities.

Barbara McLintock (GHC Alto), Gloria, Bill and Shivon as the core of our promotional team organize the posters, encourage media coverage, make promotional resources available and administer choir and public ticket sales but our community effort to get the word out is our most powerful promotional resource.  The more willing we each are to pass the message on to our family, friends, associates and the general public the more ticket sales our collective efforts will generate for the benefit of the our friends at the Power of Hope.

As always our primary concert promotion period starts as soon we get the tickets into the stores that will be selling them. That has now been done.

So… (Continued with: more info & promo tools to help you spread the word)

GHC NEWS & BUSINESS

HOW WE DON’T WANT TO STAND OUT ON STAGE!
From time to time during concert run-up weeks we’ve heard Shivon talking about posture on stage. Standing straight with shoulders back and hands by our sides etc. rather than hips cocked, legs crossed, arms folded and/or in the notorious fig-leaf pose. For example:
http://www.gettinhigherchoir.ca/choir_life/images/figleaf.jpg
Thanks to Daphne MacIain, former GHC Tenor, for submitting this photo multiple season’s ago.

SILENT MINDFULNESS HELPS!
As we get closer to the concerts there will be more and more of us coming to choir more than once a week. The increased numbers each week will make casual chatter between songs even more disruptive than usual. Offering Shivon and Denis silent mindfulness will make it easier for them to lead our practices and for all of us to get our parts solidly into our hearts so that we can truly get higher in our concerts.

** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** ** **

PLEASE BE SCENTS-ITIVE (Reminder)
As this month leading up to our concerts progresses there will be more and more of us coming to choir each night and we will all breathing deeply in close quarters and even those who aren’t “scents-itive” may find various scents hard to take. All perfumes, after shave, hair spray, tobacco and even garlic can be a problem for others. If you regularly use any of these products a non-scent set of clothing for choir would be a very considerate act. (a shower before choir is also recommended!)

No-scents makes sense!

Are you looking forward eagerly to
ATTENDING, OR SINGING IN, OUR UPCOMING CONCERTS!

If so…please share your anticipatory enthusiasm on our web site’s Concerts page by clicking on the “Comment” link below the concert listing. Clicking on the Facebook “Like” or “Share” buttons would also be good.
Your thoughts and feelings can help promote our concerts and they will add heart to the concert history that is evolving on the site. They may also serve as invitations to readers to come and sing with us in a future season.
