The local VU-UvA programme

Note:

Students may extend many of the courses in the local schedule to 8-point courses. This requires some extra independent work related to the course. E.g., an oral or written report on a special topic, the presentation of additional exercises, etc.

    1. Education variant (E-variant)

The teaching in this variant is mainly in Dutch. Therefore we also give the requirements in Dutch.

Educatie variant (wiskunde)

Tevens zijn 4 sp aan keuzemodulen verplicht.

    1. Society oriented variant for natural and life sciences

Due to the growing complexity of technological and medical issues and the interaction with society, organisations working in this sector have a growing and urgent need for academic professionals in the natural and life sciences, who have knowledge of policy management and entrepreneurship. The variant offers students with a bachelor degree in the natural and life sciences the chance to combine a specialization in this field with a specialization in research, communication or education.

This variant is coördinated by dr. M.B.M. Zweekhorst. Address: Faculty of Earth and Life Sciences, Dept. Biology and Society, De Boelelaan 1087, room A-062, phone: +31 (0) 20 598 7033, e-mail marjolein.zweekhorst@falw.vu.nl.

The course language is English, unless all students participating in the course speak Dutch, the course language will be Dutch.

  1. Medical Natural Sciences (MSc)

The information presented here concerns the structure of the MSc programme in Medical Natural Sciences and detailed course information.

More detailed and general information about the master programme - for instance the master coordinator, schedules, etcetera - can be found at the faculty's website.

During the Master's in Medical Natural Sciences students can specialize themselves by doing a Major in one of the following disciplines:

- Biomolecular Sciences

- Medical Physics

- Bioinformatics

- Molecular Medicine
Each programme encompasses at least compulsory (theoretical) courses, a research project including Master thesis (Major), literature thesis and colloquium, and optional courses or training. Generally spoken these students may aim at continuing their study with PhD education, in order to obtain an executive job as researcher, group leader etcetera at university, research institution, government or (industrial) company.
