I am applying for UEM Scholarship because it provides the opportunity for me to pursue undergraduate studies at foreign universities. First and foremost, I always want to be given the chance to study, connect and experience culture and ways of living overseas as I believe that it would be a good opportunity for me to learn, grow and be independent. I come from a middle socio-economic family background in which I hope that by granting the scholarship, it would reduce my parents’ financial burdens to support my tertiary education.
Next, I am attracted to the courses offered under UEM scholarship which are more to scientific and technological innovations. It is related to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) approach. I believe that in facing the challenges of both globalization and knowledge-based economy, I should be equipped with the capabilities in STEM and some personal qualities such as competent, innovative and adaptable in order to compete in a global economy.
Lastly, the scholarship is important to me as it helps to realise my dream. I believe that people derive pleasure from what they love doing. I derive excitement and joy from studying the course I enjoy, and not to forget giving to the community one day in future. I would strive to perform well in my studies as I am aware that education is the main contributor to the development and advancement of society and nation. I would apply what I have learned and studied into practice which eventually leads to growth and development in Malaysia so that it would be on par with other developed countries.
I believe that I have gone through a huge transformation during Form 4 schooling where I was elected as one of the community members in the church. That was the time where I learned good time management, set priorities, developed leadership and communication skills. Despite activities and camps I joined in church, I managed to juggle well between studies and church activities, and scored good grades in SPM, and I am truly grateful for that. Besides that, I have learned the importance of social and leadership skills through planning and organizing church activities. I made a bunch of good friends where we share happiness, joy and confusion. We have created some wonderful experience and memories together. I am blessed and thankful to have been part of this. I have never regretted taking the roles as a community member to serve the God and the communities, as to me it is important to make the most of where we are at and blooming where we are planted.
