Energy Resources Project

Goal: Students will be able to differentiate between renewable and non-renewable resources, identify examples of each, and cite advantages and disadvantages of these common resources in our society.

Procedures:

  1. Students will be working in nine groups of 2 or 3. Students will be permitted to choose their own work groups.

MY GROUP MEMBERS: ______________________________________________________

  1. Each group will become “masters” of ONE of the following topics:

    • Solar energy

    • Wind energy

    • Geothermal energy

    • Hydroelectric energy

    • Biomass energy

    • Nuclear energy

    • Coal

      Fossil Fuels

    • Petroleum

    • Natural Gas

MY TOPIC: ______________________________________________

  1. In their groups, students will be creating a GOOGLE DOCS PRESENTATION where they will be teaching the class about their topic.

  1. All presentations will be DUE Wednesday, May 2.

  1. Students MUST include the following information within their presentation. (Include ONE SLIDE per BULLET POINT!!!) Use the attached rubric for guidance.

  • Definition of your energy resource

  • Explain whether the resource is renewable or non-renewable

  • How is the energy resource produced and how do we recover it?

  • Explain ways we turn the energy resources into energy we can use.

  • Explain who uses this energy resource and for what purposes

  • Advantages of using this energy resource (environmental factors)

  • Disadvantages of using this energy resource (environmental factors)

  • Important random facts about the energy resource

  • 3 questions to “quiz” your peers over the topic. The class should have learned the answers to these questions from your presentation. Questions may be in the form of short answer, essay, true/false, or multiple choice.

  1. Each slide MUST be pre-approved on paper before students are allowed to develop it on the computer

  1. This is an IN-CLASS project and most of the work should be completed in-class. Students may have to do some research outside of class pertaining to their topic, since homework will be minimal during this time. Students are expected to use class time wisely and productively.

  1. Slide should be clearly written with appropriate fonts and graphics that should not distract from the information. Remember: You are the TEACHER!

  1. On the day of group presentations, students must have:

    1. PRINTED VERSION of the presentation (1 per group)

    2. Access to the GOOGLE PRESENTATION online

    3. 3 Review questions
