Anthem Final Essay

Mr. Helton’s English IV, Spring 2018

Ayn Rand’s Anthem, the tale of two people struggling to become individuals in a society centered solely on the group, is an example of a bildungsroman, or coming-of-age novel. In a bildungsroman, the protagonist moves away from being a naïve child to becoming a wiser, more mature adult. The acquisition of knowledge and experience help the character become the person they are meant to be.

Track Equality 7-2521’s journey from naïveté into adulthood. How is his journey relatable to our own journeys into adulthood? In other words, how does Equality 7-2521’s transition into adulthood mirror our own – even though his “reality” is much different than ours?

In a well-developed essay with an introduction and thesis, body, and conclusion, defend what you think about this topic. Use specific examples from the text in addition to examples from your own experience. All textual examples (both quoted and paraphrased) must be in MLA format. This essay must be at least 600 to 800 words in length.

Good luck!
