Fear of failure is a common trait in a lot of people, but it seems like it is especially common in athletes. Why is that, how do you know if you have fear of failure, how can you overcome fear of failure. I will answer all these questions in my analytical essay on the fear of failure.
What is fear of failure?
Fear of failure (or Atychiphobia) is when a person lets their fear of being bad at something, get in their way of being successful. It is common in many people, but is especially common in athletes. This might be, because they are constantly being put in pressure situations, like a buzzer-beater in basketball, or a game winning field goal in football. If they fail once at those then they might be scared to try again. Usually if you do mess something up in sports then your coach will offer help to you and try to make you better, but many times there will be people, sometimes even teammates who will laugh at you, criticize you, and even make fun of you because you let their team down. That is where many people develop their fear of failure, when their negatively criticized.
How do you know if you might have a fear of failure?
Now that you know what fear of failure is, now you need to figure out if you have it. If you feel nervous and reluctant to try new things, then you may have a fear of failure. If you’re always negative and being down about things, then you may have a fear of failure. If you’re a perfectionist and won’t leave or do something unless it’s perfect, then you might have a fear of failure.
How can you overcome your fear of failure?
Do you have a fear of failure? Don’t worry because fear of failure can easily be reversed. Some ways to overcome fear of failure is to think more positively, and another is to always have a plan-B and to analyze all of the potential outcomes. Another great way to overcome your fear of failure is to look at the worst case scenario. Many times the worst case scenario isn’t always that bad and it can give you insight to what’s ahead.
