Notes on “Amsterdam”

Finish discussion over reading, read aloud, notes on Oedipus/Creon/Tiresias. Soliloquy/Monologue assignment (due week of 21st), Vocab books – lesson 1 for homework. Read 28-32 for HW

Collect vocab HW, any questions over reading?



Hw: finish Oedipus and take notes (light/lightness, truth, dark/darkness), listen to linguistics podcast: what is your relationship with language?

9/16 – Discussion: What is Your Relationship with Language? Questions over the end of Oedipus, veggie movie, finish Oedipus slideshow

9/17 – Continue language discussion and how it relates to vocab words. Vocab quiz on Wednesday, presentation on Freud’s Oedipus Complex – anyone want to do an assignment on this?

9/21 - Notes and discussion over hubris, characters, chronology. Re-visit Soliloquy Assignment (due Monday). Oedipus test review: test on Thursday! NWEA’s!!! Vocab test on Wednesday.

9/30 – Essay rubric given out (choice of Antigone or Oedipus), Antigone books given out- hw: read 1-10, NWEA discussion and ideas for incentives

10/1 – Soliloquy due/discussion of Antigone/HW: Finish Antigone – be ready for quiz. Work day for essay on Monday

10/14 – PSAT testing (don’t forget about your Oedipus/Antigone Essay!)

10/15 – Essays due! Lesson 2 in vocabulary book assigned for homework. Class discussion on next unit.

10/19 – Collect vocab hw. Watched One in 8 Million (sneaker, taxidermist, teenager, bankrobber, busker). Began reading in class (Siddhartha books given out). HW: read to page 37.

10/21 – Notes and discussion on Siddhartha, meditation practice

10/22 - Siddhartha packets distributed, reading discussed, One in 8 Million

10/26 – Quiz over reading, discussion on what can be taught in school, HW: read Kamala and answer questions.

10/28 – Discuss Kamala questions, read (finish Amongst the People for homework), reminder: wear comfortable clothes…bring yoga sheet.

10/29 – One in 8 million, yoga, HW: read 75-100 and answer reading guide questions, don’t forget to update stress graph.

11/2 – Poetry assignment. Read through “The Son”, vocab quiz on Thursday, hw: brainstorm 3 people to interview and why.

11/4 – Collect poetry assignment, review grades, discuss “1 in 8 million” project

11/5 – Vocab quiz, Finish project discussion (due date, rubric), silent reading

11/9 – Rubric for project discussed, timeline for project discussed, end of book writing prompt

11/12 – Half of period for drafting interview scripts, begin movie

11/16 – Have pictures ready for downloading!! (send to amy.heric@gmail.com) Discussion about grades, SlumDog Millionaire, work time in library if needed.

11/18 – Finish Slumdog…who needs time for parent teacher conferences? Workday on Thursday, quick tutorial on how to record sound and drop in pictures.

11/19 – PEP grant surveys, finished Slum Dog movie, hw: complete at least 85% of your project over break!!!


THANKSGIVING BREAK – rest up!
12/2 – Media discussion on World AIDS Day campaign posters.

12/3 – Book Pass/project trouble shooting. Pass back papers

12/7 – Discuss book pass, book for next Monday! Trouble shoot projects – they need to be turned on before winter break. Next unit: literary terms through fiction, poetry, independent reading. Looking ahead to the final: performance assessment with literary terms (more discussion and explanation to follow- after break).

12/10 – Pass back all papers and grade reports for Q2, assign lit term homework: fiction and poetry.

12/14 – Bridges presentation (guidance)

12/16 – Project presentations
