The National Service Scheme has been in operation since 1973-74, initially with enrollment of 50 volunteers. Subsequently the strength was enhanced to 100 volunteers in the year 1986-87. The NSS Officer organizes the Regular Activities every week-end and a Special camp is held once in a year. At the special camp, the volunteers take active part in renovating/revamping the adopted village every year. Regular activities include campus cleaning, maintainance of adopted village, awareness programme on HIV, Leporsy, Malaria, Dengue and other communicable diseases. The NSS unit conducted seminars and orientation programme for the volunteers.
They also have cultural feast in the evenings. The volunteers gain awareness of the local socio-economic conditions. The participants are issued Participation Certificates on completion of 240 hours in Regular Activities and one special camp. A student thus enrolling as a volunteer in the NSS has the chance of developing his personality at the end of the year.

Besides regular activities the unit organized programmes on Communal harmony for bringing awareness about the importance of all religion and peaceful living.
NSS volunteers attended one day seminar on “Life skill strategy and management” conducted by Regional coordinator and State Liaison officer of Puducherry on 23rd March 2013. Some volunteers also went to visit Borra Caves near Vizag along with Programme Officer as a heritage trip on 24th March 2013.
