Voices Visible Writing Contest Rules


  1. The Voices Visible writing contest is open to all students in British Columbia from Grades 2 to 12.



  1. This contest is free to enter.



  1. Contest entries must be submitted by a BCTELA member. To become a member, please register at BCTELA.ca



  1. All entries must be received by April 30, 2018.



  1. There is no limit to the number of entries an individual student may submit. The categories are Prose and Poetry. Entries are limited to 1500 words. Poetry may be spaced the way the poet has written it. All entries must be typed or word-processed and submitted in hard copy. ** Please use font size 12, double-spaced, Times New Roman.



  1. Submissions will not be returned due to the volume of entries received. Please save an electronic copy. Winning entries will be required to resubmit their submission via email.



  1. Please attach a completed BCTELA Voices Visible Writing Contest Entry Form with each submission. Type the information to ensure accuracy. Neat, block-letter printing will also be accepted. All fields are required in the event an individual needs to be contacted. Incomplete forms will result in the submission being disqualified.



  1. To allow blind judging, the author’s name should NOT appear on the actual submission, only on the BCTELA Entry Form, which is attached to each submission.



  1. The decision of the judging panel is final.



  1. Winning entries will be notified by phone or email in early fall. The winning author will receive one complimentary copy of Voices Visible Student Writing Journal containing the winning entries from this contest. Additional copies may also be purchased from BCTELA. Each BCTELA member receives one copy as part of their membership.


* Remember: You are submitting a paper copy at this time. Please save an electronic copy in the event your submission is chosen by the judging panel.
