ANNUAL REPORT 2015-16


  • Honourable Chief Guest Mr. P. K. Mandal, General Manager (HSE), Mrs. Mandal , His Grace Bishop Thomas Mar Athanasios the President of the Society of St. Basil, Mr. Varghese Thomas our Trustee, Mr. Shaji Mathai our Adviser, Miss. Ritu Sutaria Prime Minister of school Parliament, Distinguished guests, Principals’ of our sister schools, Parents, Teachers and dear students. A very warm welcome to all of you on behalf of The Society of St. Basil and The Baselios Public School family to the 6th Annual Day Celebration.




  • The sole aim of our institution is to impart sound education and create intellectually sharp, emotionally balanced and morally sound citizens. Therefore along with academics a wide range of activities are conducted to enhance the talents and abilities of the students. It is my privilege to present before you the Annual Report describing the school activities for the academic year 2014-2015.




  • This academic session started on 4th April 2014 with the addition of std. IX Secondary Section with the blessings of His Grace Thomas Mar Athanasios.




  • Orientation with Parents

  • At the beginning of the session we had an Orientation programme with parents of K.G, Primary and Secondary students. A detailed power point presentation was given to std. IX students parents to make them aware of the new initiative taken by CBSE, specially for the Assessment of Speaking and Listening, Problem Solving and Open text based assessment. A healthy interaction took place with parents & all their queries were answered.







  • Elections for the school parliament were held in the month of April. Miss Ritu Sutaria and Master Nimit Patel were elected as the school Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister respectively. The new team was installed by His Grace. Oath was taken and duties were assigned to each member of the parliament.




  • S.A. I and All India Examinations




  • In order to prepare the children for competitive exams and gain confidence to be at par with the best students at National and International level, children were encouraged to participate in Science, Maths and English Olympiad. Children also participated in ‘Talent Search’ exams. Results of these exams are awaited.




  • Parent contact day was held to discuss the S.A. I results along with project display.




  • Competitions




  • We divide our students in four houses namely Red, Blue, Green and Yellow. Inter House competitions are organised throughout the year to instill a variety of skills with competitive spirit.

  • In July An Extempore speech competition was held for the student of Std. V to IX. Topics were given to each participant half an hour before the event. This Activity helps the students to speak with confidence and fluency. Jai Gadhvi in Jr. Group and Aman Jaiswar in senior group won the first prize in this event.

  • Inter House Singing Competition was held for the KNT Namboothiri Trophy. A choir from each house presented songs on Family Relationships. Yellow house won the Trophy.

  • To inculcate interest in Mathematics and judge the mental ability of students, mental Maths competitions for students of 3rd to 9th were held.

  • Inter House G.K. quiz competition was held for the Kalpana Dutta Rolling Trophy which was won by the team of Yellow house. A team of 5 students also participated in Inter School Quiz competition for the Mar Philoxenos Rolling Trophy hosted by St. Paul’s school.

  • Hindi Week was celebrated in which competitions like Handwriting, Poem recitation, Debate, Essay & Poem writing in Hindi were conducted. Prizes were sponsored by IOCL. Mr. V.K. Kanaujia, Chief Manager CSR gave away the prizes to all the winners.

  • Rangoli and Garba competitions were held as a part of Navratri celebration.

  • Competitions were held for Best out of waste and Collage making for students of Std. V to IX. Children made useful items out of waste material and collages were made on the theme of ‘Swach Bharat’.

  • Inter House Essay competition was held for both Junior and Senior group in which Yellow house won the trophy.

  • Children also participated in Several Art competitions at school and interschool level.

  • A debate competition was held for the Alka Smart Rolling Trophies which were bagged by Aman Jaiswar of Std. IX in Senior group And Arunima Binish of Std. VI in Junior group.They along with Ritu Sutaria of Std. IX and Shuvanudhyan Hazra of Std. V represented our school for the Inter school Debate competiotion for The Baselios Trophy Hosted by GREMS.




  • K.G. and Junior Primary Week




  • K.G. and Junior Primary Week was organized during which the students had a week long program of fun, competitions, film show and party. Grand Parents day was organized for the K.G. children. Tiny tots introduced their grandparents and proudly took them around the school. The week long events ended with a cultural programme presented for parents. Winners of all competitions were awarded prizes by Mrs. Dhar Gupta wife of Mr. S.K. Dhar Gupta Executive Director, Gujarat Refinery.







  • Sports and games have a very important role to play in the life of a student. The students participated in the Khel Maha Kumbh an initiative of Gujarat Education Board. They participated with teams from other schools in Kho-Kho, Volleyball, Badminton and Chess. The participants made us proud by reaching different levels in each game.

  • Yashvi Patel of Std. IX reached upto national level in chess winning 5000 Rs. from Gujarat Govt. Harni Elango of Std. IV made us proud by acquiring Black Belt in Karate.

  • 6th Annual Sports day was celebrated on 22nd November. 2014. Mr. S.K. Dhar Gupta Executive Director, Gujarat Refinery was the Chief guests. A spectacular March Past and drills were presented. Prizes and Medals were given to all the winners and champions. Red House was awarded the ‘Best House in sports Trophy’.

  • Festivals & Celebrations

  • We have celebrated Onam, Janamashtami, Teachers Day, Diwali, Children’s Day and Navratri and with great enthusiasm.




  • On Independence Day our students presented a patriotic programme at the community Hall which was highly appreciated by parents and IOCL dignitaries. A token prized of Rs. 20, 000 was announced by Shri. S.K. Dhar Gupta Executive Director, IOCL for our performers.




  • On the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Swachata Abhiyan was conducted in school for which Shri S.K. Dhar Gupta visited our school and helped in the cleaning activity. Similar activity with the CISF Jawans was also conducted.




  • Training and Workshop

We sent our teachers for several training programme in order to facilitate them to perform better.

  • Mrs. Parnita Goel and Mrs. Thushara Binish attended a one day Mathematics workshop organised by Sri Ravishankar Vidya Mandir at Anand for the CBSE schools of Gujarat.

  • Mrs. Jitendra Malik and Mrs. Sosamma Varghese attended a two day ASL workshop for English teachers organised by Navrachna school.

  • Mrs. Sosamma Varghese and Mr. Sandeep Sharma attended a workshop on ‘Innovation in teaching of Social Science’ held at Bight CBSE school Vasna.

  • 2nd Annual conference of Sahodaya Schools complex, Central Gujarat region to discuss the guiding principles of the National curriculum Frame work was attended by Mrs. Jitendra Malik, Mrs. Sosamma Varghese and myself.

  • A training programme for the teaching and non-teaching staff of Baselios Public School and Guj. Ref. Eng. Med. School was organised by the Training center of the Gujarat Refinery on the “5-s” concept and ICT as a supplement to class- room teaching. Whatever we learnt during this training is being implemented in our school.

  • Workshop by Scholastic India on Active learning – teaching language in a holistic way and “The world around us for social studies was attended by Mrs. Jitendra Malik and Mr. Sandeep Sharma.

  • A seminar for all our teachers was organised by the management of the Society of St. Basil on “Teaching- Beyond Teaching”. The resource person Mrs. Asha Thomas Fenn a renowned management Guru had come from Kerala to conduct this seminar.

  • A mock emergency evacuation drill by the fire and safety department of IOCL was organised in our school. It created awareness amongst our students about how to act in emergency situation.

  • A talk and powerpoint presentation on Traffic rules and safety was given to our students by ‘Team Safe’ students of M.S.U.




  • Field Trips

  • Senior children went to witness the annual day of ‘Disha’ a school for the differently abled and specially the autistic children. It was an eye opener and a wonderful experience for them.

  • Children went on a visit to the Kamati Baug, Zoo and had a train ride. K.G. children went to G.S.F.C. Garden and G.R. Temple.

  • Annual picnic will be organised in the month of January 2015.




  • We are happy to announce that from the next academic year we will be introducing ‘English Mentor’ an English Learning programme that guides learners to acquire meaningful proficiency in English and empower them to become competent and confident communicators. A language lab with all the necessary equipments is being set up for this purpose.




  • Baselios Public School has been in existence for only six years. We have met many challenges and overcome them to create new bench marks. Our next big challenge will be to present our first batch of students for the X board exams in the coming academic year. I thank parents for putting their trust in us. I am sure the joint efforts of my teachers, students and their parents will bear fruit.




  • I express my deep gratitude and thanks to His Grace Bishop Thomas Mar Athanasios for his constant guidance and encouragement.



  • I extend my sincere thanks to Mr. Varghese Thomas and Mr. Shaji Mathai for the advice, help and support they have given at every stage.




  • We are deeply indebted to Shri. S. K. Dhar Gupta and all the personnel in the various departments of IOCL for their generous help during the year.




  • I conclude this report by thanking my dedicated team of teachers and staff for their support and hard work.




  • In the end I thank God almighty for the Blessings showered on us and submit this report before you.
