ALS Ride For Life Presents:

Scholarship Announcement for Students Impacted by ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease)

Sponsored by CGAA

Along with RBC Wealth Management and NYSUT Teacher Locals Across LI

ALS Ride For Life, a Long Island based not-for-profit patient-driven charity, has available annual scholarships for a graduating senior(s) who has had an ALS family member. The scholarship winner will be notified on or about February 28, 2017 and money will be available and made payable to the college on or about August 1, 2017. This scholarship is funded by the philanthropic participation of Long Island educators, Long Island Teacher Unions and generous business organizations.




Eligibility & Requirements




  1. The student needs to have a direct and verifiable family connection to ALS: either a parent, stepparent, grandparent, aunt, uncle or sibling.

  2. The student must be a NY resident

  3. The student must be accepted (or anticipate acceptance) to an accredited college and provide bursar’s bill.

  4. The applicant is required to complete an application including a brief essay explaining their family relationship to ALS and detailing any direct involvement with care giving, advocacy, etc.

Selection Process




  1. A matrix prioritizing family relationship, student impact and residence of the applicant will determine the point value.




  1. When there is a tie, a simple lottery will be used to determine the winner.




  1. The successful candidate will need to verify eligibility.

Deadlines




  1. Applications must be postmarked no later than February 13, 2017

  2. Successful candidate will be contacted on or about February 28, 2017

  3. A check will be made payable to the college on or about August 1, 2017
