A Jury of Her Peers

1. Read the story "A Jury of Her Peers" by Susan Glaspell


2. Highlight and take notes as you read about the plot, characters, setting, conflicts, and themes.

3. Choose 20 words from the story that you do not know. List them, define them, and use them in an original sentence. Hand these words in on a Word document.
4. Watch a short version of this story on-line. Go to the following web page, scroll down to #7, click on the gold VOD icon and watch the first 15 minutes of the movie.

5. Compare and Contrast Project - compare and contrast the three women we have read about - Minnie, Emily, and Louise.

- Fill out the compare contrast organizer with at least 5 similarities and differences for each character. Write down quotes and details about each character.

- Write a 4/5 paragraph essay comparing and contrasting the three characters. Organize your essay as follows:

- first paragraph - introduction- briefly explain what you are writing about and a general statement about the three characters.

- second paragraph - how are the characters similar?

- third paragraph - how are the characters different?

- fourth paragraph - conclusion and personal response

- Use a minimum of three quotes in the essay. (A quote can be ANY words from the story - it does not have to be words in quotes from the story!)

- Use a minimum of three details and/or facts in the essay.

- Your final essay should be typed using 12 point font and double-spaced. (Don't forget to give your essay a title and to put your name on the paper!)

The final essay is due on Friday January 22!
