RE: [SMM-Activists] Re: Does the RCA still have any sens ?

Self belief is not a vain ideal.
Our efforts in this fight serve to remind us this is a matter of profound political dimensions and prove that good reason underlines our motive in resistance to homophobic abuse.

We are doing so, time and again.

Sizzla signature
In reply to Tjenba Red:
Re Sizzla's signature on the RCA:
Was one document signed by Sizzla / Collins a short statement? If so,

that one was done by his manager. Not valid.

I would go by the RCA version on my website, which is signed by him.
Sizzla has not denied signing the RCA, as far as I know.
Do you know different?

Schengen prohibited list
Good idea David.
A couple of the singers are already banned from the Schengen zone -

thanks to Philip Braun, Klaus Jetz and others in Germany. I can't

remember which ones.
Could Philip please confirm who is on the Schengen prohibited list?
But we could try to get more singers on it. Do you want to have a go David?

Re: [SMM-Activists] Does the RCA still have any sens ?
Hi all
My opinion is that we have now tried three times to accommodate

artists who may have wished to turn away from their homophobic pasts,

and three times we have been made to look like suckers.
My personal opinion is that these agreements are just ways for the

artists to secure short-term concessions from us and they do not take

them seriously. We should therefore just simply continue to campaign

against these artists and any new artists who promote homophobic

violence.
No more deals.
That's what I think. Every single deal so far has been entered into by

us in good faith and has turned into a huge waste of time and a

diversion from campaigning. The artists are either too stupid or too

stubborn to stick to the deals - or had no intention of doing so from

the start.

Hi there again
I found a second youtube-video of the concert of 25th December 2007.

As you can see in the background it's the same party at GT Taylors.

Same Party, other perspective, better sound quality and interesting

statements of Capleton (like „Battyman fi dead di yuth em right bout

that"). See fast transcript.

URGENTLY SOUGHT!! BLGBT History sources.....
Dear All,
I very urgently require access to sources/information on BLGBT History (primarily in the UK) for a presentation I'm giving to Age Concern next Tuesday, 14th October.
The presentation has grown significantly in importance.. This is because it was originally designed to be just a social interest item for the audience, focusing on our fight against homophobia.
It has now expanded to become an opportunity to encourage Age Concern to welcome both LGBT and ethnic minorities and to tailor services to meet our needs.
Surely we cannot afford to miss what is a rare chance to encourage a nation-lwide charity such as Age Concern to adapt and be more inclusive to both minority groups, whose needs have been sadly overlooked to date.
Your help would be most appreciated, and, more importantly, be a great service to both these groups.
Thanks, yours,
Ted Walker-Brown

Would you be able to refer me to, or send, a summary of the history of the Stop Murder Music Campaign, Proud Heritage, Rukus and the Black Gay Mens Advisory Groups for me to include in presentations I'm giving (starting with Age Concern on 14th October) as part of the celebrations of BLGBT/Black History Month?
Sorry it's such short notice - and in light of time restraints, anything you can send online would be much appreciated.
Thanks, yours,

PS We're trying to raise the profile of BLGBTs in Black History Month celebrations now and in the future. As you know, we've been overlooked for far too long.

Elephant Man Concerts cancelled in Stuttgart, Munich, Hamburg and Do
Dear friends,
I am happy to report that following our protests Elephant Man Concerts in Stuttgart, Munich, Hamburg and Dortmund in October have been cancelled (see our press release below in German). Some promoters stated that currently there is no future for dance hall in Europe!

Elephant Man Konzerte abgesagt

So etwa in den Songs "A Nuh Fi Wi Fault", "We Nuh like Gay" und "Log on".

"My Crew My Dawgs" from T.O.K. and "Log on" from Elephant Man put
Dear friends,
We are happy to report that four years after our first demand, the Federal Government of Germany through its “Office that examines potentially youth-endangering media” put "My Crew My Dawgs" from T.O.K. and "Log on" from Elephant Man on the index of music endangering youth (see our press release below in German).
This is a government agency officially agreeing with the “stop murder music” campaign’s assessment of the text of these songs!

Beenie Man signed "RCA II - Berlin"
Dear friends,
Please find the reworded “REGGAE COMPASSIONATE ACT II – BERLIN” with the undated signature from Beenie Man (see attached PDF), which was published before his concert in Berlin
LSVD has publicly denounced the way the promoters acted as they did NOT show us the statement before publishing it claiming that we collaborated. Kesselhaus in Berlin did not take on board significant demand demands from LSVD, including specifically that Beenie Man PUBLICLY signs any statement.

DANCEHALL MUSIKER BEENIE MAN UNTERSCHREIBT
REGGAE COMPASSIONATE ACT II - BERLIN

Elephant Man signs the Reggae Compassionate Act
To Stop Murder Music, Bern, Switzerland
Hi Tom,
I am back in the UK and have checked re Elephant Man.
I have never seen a copy of the signed RCA by Elephant Man until you

sent it to me. But I have been previously advised by the UK-based

reggae promoter, Eddie Brown, that he had signed.
The signature on the RCA copy you have sent me corresponds to an

earlier signature by Elephant Man on a truncated (inadequate) version

that he initially signed (see attachment).
So, I guess it is reasonable to assume that he has signed the RCA.
I know of no instances where he has violated the RCA (but others like

J-Flag or Klaus Jetz in Germany may have examples - I am not able to

track every concert and public statement).
I would publicise EM's signing to the mainstream, black and music

media, and explain this is why his concert will be allowed to proceed.

You might wish to request that EM publicly reitertae his commitment to

the RCA. Then monitor his and his promoter's reaction.

I hope this helps.
Best wishes and solidarity! Peter

DJ Bounty Killa arrested for profanity in Jamaica
DJ Bounty Killa arrested for profanity in Jamaica

Published on Saturday, July 19, 2008

KINGSTON, Jamaica (Reuters): Jamaican reggae and dancehall deejay Bounty Killa was arrested in Jamaica on Friday and charged with using profanity during a performance at a leading reggae festival in Montego Bay.
Bounty Killa, whose real name is Rodney Pryce, was arrested shortly after dawn. He was charged and released on bond. He is due to appear in court on July 31 when he will answer two counts of using indecent language and disorderly conduct.
Pryce faces a maximum penalty of 30 days in prison, or a fine.
Police said that Pryce was the penultimate act on the Sumfest festival's first night, when fans booed him after he criticized other deejays in his lyrics. Pryce, police said, unleashed a series of expletives and left the stage in a huff.
Jamaican laws prohibit entertainers from using profanity on stage.
Several high-profile entertainers have faced the court in recent years for using expletives during their performances.

Re: [SMM-Activists] Reggae groups to hold "Straight Pride" in NYC
Hi Everyone,
Below is my response to the Straight Pride nonsense. Please feel free

to circulate it, especially to any black and music media connections

you have.
Straight Pride is Anti-Gay Pride
London - 7 July 2008
A small, self-selected group of reggae labels, promoters and artists

have announced that they will hold a Straight Pride Parade in New York

on 31 August, in defence of anti-gay lyrics that incite violence

against lesbian and gay people:

http://www.prweb.com/releases/2008/07/prweb1077774.htm
Commenting on the planned Straight Pride, gay human rights campaigner

Peter Tatchell of OutRage! said:

"This is a free country. Let them have their misnamed Straight Pride

Parade. They say it is a celebration of heterosexuality, but really

it's a promotion of straight supremacism. Their parade is driven by a

homophobic agenda. They defend artists who incite hatred and violence

against LGBT people.
"The organisers falsely claim that the Stop Murder Music campaign is

an attack on reggae music. Nonsense. It is an attack on a small number

of reggae singers who have perverted reggae's message of peace, love

and justice. They have betrayed the liberation ideals of the reggae

pioneers and are hijacking the genre to turn it into an anthem of

homophobic hatred and violence. They are encouraging civil war in the

black community. They want black straight people to kill black

lesbians and gay men.

"These idiots don't even realise that one of Bob Marley's most famous

songs contains a coded message that supports black gay men. It's

called 'No Women No Cry.' We play the song in gay clubs. People sing

along and add the words that Marley dared not say himself: 'No woman,

no cry…when you got gay guy.'"

Straight Pride Parade to be Held in New York City

Although reggae is known for its militancy and its resistance to

injustice, the reggae community has remained calm throughout the

attack on the music by Peter Tatchell and other Gay activists groups.

Rather than going on the offense, the reggae community will instead

unite in solidarity a day prior to labor day in New York City.

(PRWEB) July 7, 2008 -- TCOOO Productions the label behind the "18

Karat Reggae" CD series is holding the first ever Straight Pride

Parade in Brooklyn, New York on August 31, 2008. The parade will take

place on Eastern Parkway along the same route as the annual Caribbean

labor day parade.
New reggae / dancehall sensation Jango Fresh said, "the Straight pride

parade is a great idea because when a song like "Hit them hard" by my

label mate Stapler can be banned just because it stresses the

importance of a male and a female in every family, it is a sign that
