DIVERSITY GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP 2016-2017

Diverse systems are more resilient. Diversity offers systems greater capacity for adapting to emergent problems. Diversity is essential for problem solving in sustainability, urban planning and development and the spatial sciences. The Center for Sustainability is pleased to announce the Diversity Graduate Scholarship Program designed to assist in achieving a more diverse population of graduate students consistent with the needs of individual disciplines to enhance diversity in their respective workforces.
Award: The award includes a tuition scholarship of twelve (12) credit hours total during the Fall and Spring semesters. Maximum award of credit hours is 24.
Eligibility:
Must be accepted as a classified (degree-seeking) graduate student in the Center for Sustainability at Saint Louis University
Must be a new Master’s student (an applicant may have been enrolled for no more than one semester previously in the degree program)
Criteria:
Outstanding scholastic achievement and potential success in graduate education
Employment, teaching and/or research experience
Community Service: Examples from high school, college and/or career
Evidence of academic and/or professional leadership
Commitment to future leadership in promoting diversity in the discipline
Other factors identified by the discipline that contribute to the discipline’s goal of diversity
Length of Appointment:
The start and end dates of scholarships correspond with the University’s academic year, which begins in the third week of August, and are generally awarded for 9 months (August to May). The maximum length of time a student may hold a Diversity Scholarship is two (2) years while pursuing a Master’s degree
Re-Appointment:
Graduate students who are performing satisfactorily in their studies and duties are eligible for annual re-appointments to the maximum time limit. Academic and professional performance and progress are measured by the following criteria:
A grade point average of at least a 3.0 (both cumulative and over the past academic year).
A student academic record with not more than one incomplete or missing grade.
