PURPOSE OF EDUCATION MINI-ESSAY

For Monday, July 30, 2012, you must type, submit to Turnitin.com, and bring to class a hard copy of a minimum one page and maximum two page essay that thoroughly discusses the prompt below.

This is a formal essay. The essay must clearly incorporate your opinions and ideas, but you are not allowed to use any first person pronouns. State and support your ideas and opinions, but never use the following:

I, me, my, mine, myself, you, your, yours, yourself, yourselves



Instead, get used to utilizing the following pronouns:

Americans, citizens, people, society, students, etc.



Example:

Bad: “I believe parents should be held more accountable than teachers in terms of student success.”



Good: “Parents should be held more accountable than teachers in terms of student success.”

**IMPORTANT: I do not allow the use of the following verbs: Give, say, show or tell. Word choice points will be deducted for every use of these verbs. use the thesaurus or your lexical knowledge to locate stronger verbs.

Mini-Essay Writing Prompt:

You have been put in charge of creating a completely new educational system. What critical lessons will you ensure students are being taught? Make sure to include social, academic, athletic and other aspects of the school experience. Support your arguments with specific examples.
