EARLY DISMISSAL

The first marking period ends on Friday, November 6th. There is a Two Hours and Forty-Five Minutes Early Dismissal System-wide on this day. East Middle School Students will begin dismissal at 12:25.

PICTURE RE-TAKES

Lifetouch will be here on November 17th to take pictures of all students who were absent on the original picture day or who are new to East Middle. Lifetouch will also be doing retakes for any students whose families did not like their photos. Parents or guardians need to send a note to the main office requesting a retake prior to November 17th. Students will need to turn in the package of pictures they do not want to the photographer on that day in order to have their photos retaken. If you have any questions please contact Mrs. Dehne in the main office.

SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR

The Media Center will be the home of a Scholastic Book Fair beginning on Thursday, November 12th and ending on Friday, November 20th.  All students will be scheduled to visit the book fair with their RLA classes.  Students may purchase books as well as browse during this time.  It is also possible for students to visit the book fair before school and during lunch in order to make a purchase.

Check out our online connection/flyer for the fair at http://bookfairs.scholastic.com/homepage/eastmiddleschoolbookfair

You may also order books online this year (Nov 7-27) on the website.

Questions may be directed to our Media Specialist, Mr. Stencil.

VETERAN’S DAY RECOGNITION CEREMONY

East Middle will honor our own relatives that are veterans and currently serving during a ceremony that will be held at EMS on Tuesday, November 10th at 2 pm.  We would be honored to have veteran’s attend with their East Middle School students.  Pictures of family members who have served our nation will also be displayed in an “Honor Roll” that will run during our Veteran’s Day assembly and in addition to this their names will be read. Please send in photographs (copies of them are great too!) or submit names of any family members who have served in the military so we can honor them. Homeroom teachers will collect the pictures and information. Pictures will be returned when the display is over.

CHARLOTTE HALL VETERANS HOME DONATIONS

This year 8th graders will be assembling care packages for the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home in Charlotte Hall, Maryland. Over the next two weeks, we will be collecting monetary donations to support this cause. Any donation that is made can be turned into any Social Studies teacher and will be used towards purchasing goods for the care packages.

PTO NEWS

Start Clipping your Box Tops.  The PTO is running a contest beginning November 2nd until November 30th.   The student who submits the most Box Tops per grade will win a surprise.   Keep in mind to clip them on the dotted lines and be sure they have not expired, but most of all, be sure your students name and homeroom teacher are on the baggie when you send them in.

Attached are order forms for the Panera Bread Coupon Strip Sale.  Order forms are due December 1st and the coupon strips will be delivered to homerooms the week of December 14th.   Each strip is $10.00 each, they make great gifts and are good at all Maryland locations.   You can use up to 3 coupons at one time.   There are no expiration dates.
Our Annual East Middle Bingo will be held on Friday, December 4th at Pleasant Valley Fire Hall.   Doors open at 5:30pm.   It's a great night to be had by all, students, adults and teachers of EMS come out.  Invite your friends and family.   Bags are overflowing with great items and gift cards.   A flyer is attached.  Tickets sell out fast so don't delay.
Our next PTO meeting is on Tuesday, November 10th at 7:00 in the Media Center and then our next restaurant night is on Wednesday, November 11th at Pizza Hut-we'd love to see our East Middle families.
SNOWDOGS

East Middle School is selling Night Club Card Passes to Liberty Mountain, Whitetail, and Roundtop Resorts. Attached are instructions to purchase the passes online.

Provided sufficient purchases through E SNOWDOGS group, it is our intention to take four bus trips to Liberty Mountain this winter. The dates include: January 8, January 14, January 22, and February 4 with a rain date of February 12. Be aware that two of the dates are on Thursdays this year.
The cost of the bus will be $50 and will cover all four trips. The forms and paperwork have already been handed out to kids during FLEX; however, if your son/daughter needs the information, please let me know.
When purchasing the passes, please be advised of the following:
Night Club Cards must be purchased under the E SNOWDOGS account to be eligible for the bus transportation. The only other exceptions are Advantage Card and Season Pass holders.
The possibility exists that we might not be able to provide transportation to Liberty on the dates referenced above should there be insufficient student interest. Please keep this in mind when purchasing your passes. In the past, we’ve always filled two busses; however, there is no guarantee this will be the case this year.
If you have ANY questions concerning the East Snow Dogs Club, please email Lorene Livermore at lkliver@carrollk12.org.
