I wake up from the sweet sound of my music center playing Beethoven. I open my eyes and see a picture of a girl standing near the piano. The eyes of the young girl are full of happiness and I feel her unconcealed delight and confidence. What can I tell you about this girl from Bucharest? She is very enthusiastic and passionate about what she is devoted to. Music has changed her life ever since she turned seven when she impressed a music teacher and successfully passes an audition to the music school. The sounds of piano penetrated her mind and soul and made the girl perceive the world truly deep. She never had time to play with her friends as she was always near her piano trying to play better, trying to feel the instrument better. This was the moment when everybody realized that she is the type that never leaves anything undone, the type that struggles and overcomes obstacles that prevent her from achieving her goal. She was always trying to improve and she managed it owing to her originality, imagination, creativity and persistence. Playing the piano was not enough – she needed to sing and that is how she got to the National Performing Arts School of Bucharest to study vocal music. Ever since that moment she sang and played with a passion even stronger than she showed before. She got The Romanian Youth Award at the "Golden Music Festival" in 2004, the Popularity Award at "Radu Serban National Pop Music Festival" in 2004 and the Special Award at "Iulian Andreescu National Pop Music Festival" in 2005; participated in “The star without a name" in 2005; provided backing vocals for the “Mamaia National Music Festival"(second most important music festival in Romania after "The Golden Stag"); and in September 2005 won the 3rd prize at the "Golden Ship National Vocal Music Festival”. Singing and playing were the whole world for her but she also liked acting for she enjoyed that she could be so different and challenge herself once again. She felt so comfortable standing in front of the public during her Speech Competition that it made her feel she needs to fight for her right to stand there. She passed the audition for TV presenters for MTV and completed a course in journalism and a course in TV presenting. You ask me what she is up to now? She wants to continue challenging herself, making a difference, generating new ideas. She is determined to pursue her dream and hopes to learn everything she can to guide her through achieving her goal. Her dream, her ideas and her persistence are something she is ready to share. For her – the opportunity to study and improve is exactly what she has always dreamt about. For her studying psychology, playing the piano or acting equals flying, flying with her soul. She wants to fly up high to become a beautiful butterfly. How do I know so much about her? I am this girl and I want to fly stronger then ever.

The time that the students spend in college is the time when every single second should be dedicated to getting more knowledge and experience. Of course, books can give us a lot of information about culture, economy and the experiences of other countries. As studying in college is one of the main ways leading to the accomplishment of my academic and career goals I need this information and I do get it from books. Nevertheless, the best ways to get the knowledge about any country are obtained through having encounters between students with diverse backgrounds and experiences.
A student gets significantly more information from live experience and in addition to that he learns how to interact with different people performing different cultures. College is a perfect place for this cultural exchange and making conclusions on the basis of the experiences learned. Understanding the culture and the experiences of people of different backgrounds is the key to seeing the advantages and disadvantages of what we have now. And this concerns any sphere of life and every field of science. I believe, that to make the interaction between the students more productive in the sphere of experience exchange I can draw the “portrait” of a potential classmate that I truly believe I will learn from. The cultural background of the “classmate” has no real importance it can be a person from any country and any religion. Nevertheless, it has to be a person that is not superficial in his views but can motivate each of the statements he or she makes. A person that does truly know and deeply understand his own culture and does not feel superior over the other students. This classmate is always eager to share his opinion and to face confrontation in class in the first place. It is widely known that the opinion forms according to the experience of a person. And it will be especially cognitive and interesting to hear the opinion of this classmate and to organize a discussion on the given topic. It has to be a person who is not afraid to speak his mind in public, a confident person able to oppose and with a strong system of values to prevent conformism. To support this type of discussions, especially during informal interactions a potential classmate also needs to show understanding towards the experience of other people, respecting it. The primary goal of the encounters with this classmate will be learning new aspects in different fields of knowledge that can somewhat improve the knowledge I already have. At the same time he needs to be able to learn to and to compromise when it is required. In other words it has to be a very flexible person with very strong academic knowledge and various experiences. Such a classmate can make the time spend in college unforgettable and very “saturated” with useful information. But to achieve this we all need to show an ability to communicate with people of different cultural backgrounds, different life experiences and points of view. Having the classmate with the qualities above will keep my experience in college on the most possible level productivity.

This is the point in my life when I truly realize who I want to become and what I have to do to achieve it. Applying to UW-Madison is a priority for me. My primary goal is to get a food science BS, and then continue my studies in the field of pharmacy. The reason I have chosen UW is because this educational establishment is one of the top schools on the territory of the United States of America and I am hundred percent confident that I will get the knowledge that is required to become a real professional here. It is the place where the “seeds” of my professional aspirations can find the perfect soil to grow properly in. My personal efforts and the educational base of UW will become the key to my successful future and will help me achieve extraordinary results in the field of pharmacy and nutrition. So, studying in UW-Madison is one of the main ways leading to the accomplishment of my academic and career goals.
My high school teachers owing to their qualified educational methods have inspired me greatly to continue my education in the sphere of pharmacy. Chemistry has always been of an enormous interest for me. My arrival to the United States brought me to the understanding of how nutrition is important nowadays, when the food can be tremendously harmful and not contain enough vitamins for the organism. If we are what we eat, than I want to make sure we take inside only the best products that will never do any harm to a human body. Besides my great desire to get a food science BS and dedicate my future life to pharmacy I am up to continuing my active social life. I do not only want to get and learn new information about nutrition in order to acquire the profession I want but also want to share my experiences with other students. I know that I will not only fit the educational community of the UW but also give my classmates an example of cultural flexibility and thirst for knowledge. The sphere of extra-curricular activities is my second priority. Back in high school in Hong Kong I was a member of a social service club, sport team and a cheer leading team. I truly enjoyed and still enjoy volunteer service, especially if it goes about helping disabled children or the elderly. I feel myself so needed when I help them and it makes my heart beat faster. Being the member of the leadership program society in which I can give a hand to the new students and use what I had learned to help them, makes me happy. Shortly, I am going to become the international orientation leader and help the new international students to adjust. I honestly enjoy helping people in any sphere of life and helping them in the field of pharmacy is one of the most valuable things in the present times. I want to study in the UW because the course of this university and all the benefits I can get from it is one huge step toward the realization of my dream to become a real professional in the sphere of pharmacy I have chosen.
