MAKE-UP ESSAY Re-read the assigned reading for the day you were absent. Then answer the following questions:
What is the author’s thesis? (1-2 sentence summary)
What is the author’s argument for his/her thesis? (5-7 sentence summary)
Do you think this is a good or bad argument? Why or why not? (5-7 sentence evaluation)
Write clearly and concisely. Do not BS, wander, or free-associate. In short, cut to the chase: everything you write should be essential – if it isn’t, don’t include it. Finally, put everything in your own words – no quotations!
Your essay will be graded on how well it demonstrates an understanding of the relevant material and an ability to evaluate it. You may receive up to the equivalent of what you lost due to your unexcused absence. You may write one essay for each unexcused absence.
All make-up essays are due in our office by 5pm on Friday, July 13, 2007.
