Food, gum, drinks (except water), electronics (cell phones, walk/disc men, pagers), magazines, and other distracting materials will not be permitted in any classroom. All such items will be confiscated by the teacher and given to an administrator. As a reminder, cell phones must NOT be visible and will be given to an administrator should they become a classroom disruption.
Students will receive at least 45 minuets of English homework every night.
PROJECTS AND GROUP WORK:
Throughout the semester, students will be assigned projects both individually and in groups. Some projects will require that students work outside of class with others to successfully complete the project. Students will also be asked to use public libraries and other community resources to research information for both the individual and groups projects. Parents and students should be prepared to participate and support such collaborative group work.
MAKE-UP WORK DUE TO EXCUSED ABSENCES:
Students have the number of days they are absent to submit make-up work ONLY if they bring an EXCUSED readmit to class. When absent, it is the student’s responsibility to obtain a readmit
rom the Attendance Office and find out what work he/she missed. Students who graduate from Centinela Valley Union High School District with NO ABSENCES will receive a FREE laptop computer upon graduation.
TARDIES: The policy regarding arriving tardy to the class is as follows: The first tardy serves as a warning. The second tardy results in a phone call home. The third and all ensuing tardies result in a referral to the office for consultation with an administrator followed by In-House Suspension for the rest of the period.
Late work is different from make-up work. Students who fail to turn in an assignment or provide and EXCUSED readmit will NOT receive credit for missed assignments. Mrs. Santos does NOT accept late work under and circumstances.
Student grades are based on the percentage of points earned in the semester using the following scale:
A = 90 –100%
B = 80 – 89%
C = 70 – 79%
D = 60 – 69%
F = 59% and below Advanced Placement classes are college-level courses. The reality is that most colleges do not accept “D” grades as passing. All students in this course are capable of earning a grade of “C” or better if this level of achievement is expected by parents, guardians, teachers, and most important, our students.
PLAGIARISM AND ACADEMIC DISHONESTY:
Plagiarism or cheating is not tolerated in any class. Plagiarism includes quoting or paraphrasing sources without acknowledgement, submitting work produced either wholly by someone else or with the unauthorized assistance of someone else, and copying someone else’s paper. Any assignment that is deemed to have engaged in any type of plagiarism or academic dishonesty will receive an automatic “F” (zero credit). This policy applies to all assignments throughout the year.
