|High School Experiences/Who Am I Essay
High School is a very formative time in our lives, and during the short four years that we attend high school, we experience several changes that make us who we are. Your next essay will explore this change in detail through an extended essay that combines the narrative essay with the informative essay.
-First, come up with a specific example of a formative experience that helped make you the person you are today for each of your high school years (freshman-senior).
-Once you have decided on those four experiences, you will formulate a thesis statement that describes the change that has taken place from freshman year to senior year.
-Each experience from your high school years will begin with a topic sentence that makes a claim about the experience you are going to relate and how it has changed you.
-You will then tell that experience in narrative form. (you may need several paragraphs to do this- up to a page)
-You will end each narrative experience with two to three sentences about how that experience shaped you into the person you are today.
- Your complete essay will end with a conclusion paragraph reflecting on your high school experience and how it has made you the person you are today.
Your essay will be 4-5 pages, typed, Times New Roman, 12 point font, double spaced.
The last four years have been instrumental in making me the person I am today. During this time I have become a mother, earned a Master’s degree, become a homeowner, and become a Gulfport High Admiral, and each of these experiences helped to make me more independent and selfless, both domestically and professionally.
When I became a mother in April of 2014, I changed profoundly from a selfish person interested only in what I wanted to a person who always puts the needs of my son first.
Earning my Master’s degree made it possible for me to expand my job skills and ultimately has made me a better teacher.
Purchasing and owning my own home changed me into an independent person who takes the initiative in every area of my life.
I came to Gulfport High in August of 2015, and since then I have redefined my understanding of teaching and learning at the high school level.
