1EXPLANATION OF RAVEN TITLE INDEX

This index was updated 9 August 2005

This is an index of TITLES and PERTINENT WORDS IN TITLES for The Raven, Volumes 1 thru 74. Subheadings under News and Notes and Short Communications are also included.

How to use:
Even though the listings are alphabetical, it is easiest to use this index, simply by utilizing the search capability of your word-processing program. Most of the titles appear more than once, with each entry keyed on one of the words in the title. For example, the title, “Absolute abundance census in Cumberland County virgin forest, 25:80" is also listed in the following ways:
Abundance census, absolute, Cumberland County virgin forest, 25:80

Census, absolute abundance, Cumberland County virgin forest, 25:80

Cumberland County, absolute abundance census in virgin forest, 25:80

Forest, virgin, absolute abundance census in, 25:80

Virgin forest, Absolute abundance census, Cumberland Co., 25:80
In some instances, very long titles have been abbreviated in some fashion to retain the one-line per entry format to allow for easy searching and alphabetizing.
Some initial words such as “A, An, or The” have been omitted from most titles. The words "Virginia," and "VSO," have also been omitted from some titles.
In a few instances, species were added from the text because the words in the titles did not adequately explain the contents of the article. (See , 67(2):90) finches.
There has been no consistent naming of articles or like-topics in The Raven; consequently it may be necessary to conduct multiple searches using various words or phrases to find all the articles pertaining to the subject you wish to find.
Issue numbers and page numbers were sometimes inconsistent in the early issues and often times two issues appeared as one, especially volumes 1 thru 10, therefore, those issues are presented as follows: volume #(issue #):page number. An example is: Volume 7, November and December issues (printed as one): page—appears as: 7(11 & 12):13.
The issue number is given only for the volumes that were not consecutively numbered, or were incorrectly numbered throughout the issues. They are: volumes: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 10, 73, and 74. Also, please note: The 1984 issue was mislabeled “Volume 54.” The correct number is volume 55 and is corrected as such in this index.
All localities may be assumed to be in Virginia unless otherwise stated.
