Follow the guidelines below. Introductory paragraph
Start with a “hook” sentence that grabs the reader’s attention and leads the reader into the topic of kindness. It may be a question, a quotable quote, or an interesting or surprising fact.
Briefly refer to the “hook” to introduce the topic of kindness while explaining its importance and how people’s lives are impacted by it.
Clearly state your position and introduce the kindest person you have ever known as an example of how kindness impacts people. (This will be your thesis statement – the last sentence of your introduction.)
One Body paragraph – This is the paragraph where you will describe in detail the kindest person you have ever known and how he/she affects or affected the lives of others. You want to honor this person but also allow them to impact your reader just from reading your description.
Start with a topic sentence that introduces and describes this kind person.
Ideas to consider: How has this person impacted your life through kindness? Ask other people how they have been shown kindness by this person. Share some specific acts of kindness you have witnessed from this person. Do they show kindness in word and deed? Explain. Concluding paragraph – This is the “So What” paragraph of the essay. Sum up why kindness is important. You may want to refer back to your “hook” sentence but do not simply restate it. What do you want your reader to learn and take away from knowing about this kind person you have described? Leave your reader with something to think about.
