Essay Map Poster Assignment
Now that you have learned the parts of each paragraph in a persuasive essay and how these parts work together, you need to create a map that demonstrates your understanding.

Here are the basic requirements. Your map MUST:

  • be no smaller than 8 1/2 by 11" (one sheet of paper), and no larger than 11" by 25 1/2" (three standard sheets, side by side)

  • contain the five paragraphs. Each paragraph must:

  • Be the correct shape

  • Contain labels for all of its parts, as seen in your notes

  • Have the labels in correct format (all CAPS, with appropriate letters / numbers. Example: Paragraph 1 has MIP-1, Each SIP has STEWE-1 and STEWE-2, etc.)

  • have a key on the back of the map. The key must:

  • define each of the nine abbreviations / terms used on the essay map in COMPLETE sentences.

  • EXPLAIN each part’s purpose IN YOUR OWN WORDS!

  • EXPLAIN why some parts are connected to others (see below)

  • EXPLAIN the shape of the paragraphs (WHY are they shaped that way?)

  • Connect parts that are BASED ON (preview or review) one another (for example, a line from BS-1 in the Intro, to MIP-1 in the first body paragraph, to BS-1 in the Conclusion) Your definitions should explain why these ideas are connected!

  • contain the title "Essay Map" at the top, center

  • attach THIS SHEET (with Self-Graded Rubric facing up) to the back of your MAP.

  • Due Date: _________________

  • Hints for success: Use your sample essay sheet (the “people blame others” paragraphs) for a reminder as to how each body paragraph is organized. Also, make sure you check your notes and your essay map sheets
