1984 Essay:
Erich Fromm states, “George Orwell’s 1984 is an expression of a mood, and it is a warning.” And, “Books like Orwell’s are powerful warnings, and it would be most unfortunate if the reader smugly interpreted 1984 as another description of Stalinist barbarism, and if he does not see that it means us, too.”
Your essay topic: What is George Orwell warning readers and how does he use the book to create that warning?
Requirements:

1. This essay should have at least a 5 paragraph organization and should be 2-4 pages in length. You need to include ample, direct, textual evidence (quotes) from the book to support your ideas. 9 quotes must be used and incorporated smoothly within the paper. Your quotes must have in-text citations for them – i.e. (Orwell 95).


2. The paper must follow and adhere to the department expectations (department demons). The four areas are 3rd person point of view, integrated quotations, proper MLA formatting, and correct pronoun usage. Remember automatic points off for these kinds of errors.
3. You must upload your writing assignment to turnitin.com by the due date or it will be considered late. If your paper is uploaded into the late folder, it is late (either 70% or 50%). Remember, you can cut and paste your paper into the site. Do not consider your paper uploaded until you have received your confirmation receipt from turnitin.com. Your paper will be considered on time or late according to the online copy submitted to turnitin.com. A hard, paper copy is optional to turn in (but preferred!)
4. It is your responsibility to get help and feedback from me on your writing assignment before turning in a final copy. If we have class work days, utilize those for help, and before and after school. You may also reach me via email for help as well.
