  • Attention Seniors!! Are you interested in a career in banking and finance? Have you always wondered what actually goes on inside a bank? Do you need $7,500 to help pay for your college tuition? If so, consider participating in Bank Day. On this day, you will spend a day in banks shadowing a banker in their daily duties. After the Day, you will write an essay based on your experience. These essays will be judged by bankers and thirteen scholarships will be awarded to the winners. Bank Day will take place on Tuesday, March 15th. The deadline to signup is March 11th. Student essays, which are submitted directly to VBA via email, are due on April 8th. Please see your school counselor for more information.



  • Attention Seniors!! Applications for the Elias Harold Jones Memorial Scholarship for Leadership and Character are available in the school counseling office. This is a $1,500 scholarship. Any graduating senior from PECHS who plans to attend a two or four year college within six months of graduation is eligible to apply.  More information is in the application packet. Applications are due on April 21.



  • The 2016 Mary Blackwell Barnes Memorial Scholarship is now available!! Virginia Women in Public Finance has a scholarship program that provides, annually, up to five recipients with a scholarship in the amount of $1,000 to $5,000. The scholarship is named in honor of Mary Blackwell Barnes, a dedicated servant of public finance. Mary passed away in 2009 at the age of 44, but her memory lives on through the contributions she made to public finance in Virginia. The purpose of the scholarship is to recognize enrolled female college or graduate level students who have exhibited scholastic achievement and demonstrated leadership skills, encourage the consideration of careers in finance and, more specifically, public finance, and provide an opportunity for award recipients to meet women established in the public finance area and expose women to various career options and opportunities. Please see your school counselor for an application. The deadline is May 31st 2016.



  • Attention Seniors!! The $mart $tart Community Commitment Scholarship is now open!! The program was started in 2011 as part of the bank’s desire to help the area’s youth develop good financial management skills. Please visit www.bcbonline.com/smartstart for more information. The deadline is March 25, 2016.



  • Are you interested in a career in Nursing? Come to a Nursing Career Fair at Centra Southside Community Hospital (CSCH) and learn more about what it is to be a nurse and the steps to take to become one. The fair will be held at Centra Southside Community Hospital on the first floor on Tuesday, March 8th at 2:30-6:30pm. Please pick up a flyer from the school counseling office or in the CTE building.



  • The Virginia Plant Managers Association Annual Scholarship provide financial assistance to individuals attending an accredited technical school, college or university where the student/applicant’s learning is focused on building applications and studies in the area of building design, building construction, building engineering and facility maintenance. Please visit www.vspma.org for the application. The deadline is March 15, 2016.



  • The members of the Farmville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. are now seeking applicants for the 2016 Scholarship Award. Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide services and programs to promote scholastic achievement, human welfare, and economic development. Please see Mrs. Foster for an application. The deadline is March 16, 2016.



  • The Kappa Rho Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated requests that all young ladies with a GPA of 3.0 or better apply for their scholarship. Chapter members will award scholarships, each totaling $500, to at least two winning applicants based on their merits of their completed application. Please see your school counselor for an application. The deadline is March 31, 2016.



  • The Grace L. Jones Memorial Scholarship ($1,000) is awarded by the Judith Randolph-Longwood Chapter DAR each May to a high school senior who intends to pursue a career in Nursing. Please see your school counselor for an application. The application must be postmarked by March 15th.



  • Essence of Success Scholarship was created by Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated the Omega Beta Zeta Chapter to encourage, support, and assist female students currently enrolled as a Senior at Prince Edward County High School.
    The Essence of Success Scholarship intends to promote scholarship amongst high school students, encourage young females to apply for college, and to instill the true essence of what it means to be successful. Please visit http://goo.gl/forms/A6OttYV4u8 for more information.



  • The Virginia School Counselor Association is seeking applicants to apply for the 2016 Essay Competition!!! Please visit www.vsca.org to apply. Students will be competing for a $1,000 scholarship. Students with a 3.0 GPA or higher will be asked to write a 1 page essay or no more than 500 words about a School Counselor (Elementary, Middle, or High School) who has made a difference in your academic, career, and/or social development. This may be a current or previous school counselor. The School Counselor must be a member of the Virginia School Counselor Association (VSCA) and licensed. The deadline is April 1st.



  • The Armenian Education Center is pleased to announce an essay question competition which will award a $1,000 scholarship to one Virginia high school student!! The competition is open to 9th-12th students. Hard copy essays must be postmarked no later than April 4, 2016. As per instructions, essays must also be emailed by April 4th.   • Virginia Mayflower Society Announces $1,620 Scholarship!! Applicants must be a high school senior, a college undergraduate student, or a university graduate student under the age of 26 enrolled in an accredited educational institution or home-schooled equivalent. Also, applicants must be residents of Virginia, be related to a resident of Virginia, be a member or junior member of the Virginia Mayflower Society, be related to a member of the Virginia Mayflower Society, have at least a B average GPA, must be sponsored by a member of the Society of Mayflower Descendants in the Commonwealth of Virginia or by one of the applicant’s current teachers, and family members of members of the Virginia Mayflower Society’s Board of Assistants or Scholarship Committee are not eligible.



  • The Piedmont Soil and Water Conservation District is sponsoring scholarships (valued at $550.00 each) for two students to attend Youth Conservation Camp (YCC) at Virginia Tech July 10-16, 2016. The Virginia Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts sponsors the annual camp, now in its 40th year. Students enrolled in grades 9th-12th during the 2015-2016 academic year and residing in Amelia, Nottoway, or Prince Edward counties are eligible to attend.   • Virginia Credit Union will again award 25 scholarships for qualified student members, up to $2,500 each for tuition and fees for the upcoming academic year. Please see your school counselor for the brochure for the 2016-2017 Dorothy J. Hall Memorial Scholarship Program or visit www.vacu.org to apply. The deadline is March 31, 2016.



  • 2016 Granville P. Meade Scholarship is now seeking applicants. The Virginia Department of Education is pleased to announce this scholarship which provides financial assistance to students who have achieved academically, but who are financially unable to attend college. The Granville P. Meade fund awards scholarships to eligible Virginia high school seniors to attend one of Virginia’s public or private colleges or universities. Please see your school counselor for an application for this scholarship. The deadline is March 15, 2016.



  • McDaniel College Announces New $100K Educator’s Legacy Scholarship for ALL students of K-12 Employees! McDaniel College announces a new $100,00 Educator’s Legacy Scholarship for students applying to McDaniel for Fall 2016 admission. High school seniors whose parent or guardian works full time in K-12 education can apply for this guaranteed scholarship to attend McDaniel College. Any services in a K-12 school qualifies, including teachers, counselors, nurses, support staff or administrators, as long as the parent or guardian has at least four years of current and consecutive employment. Students must have at least a 2.5 GPA to receive the scholarship and must complete and file an online K-12 employment verification form.   • Southside Electric Cooperative will offer awards of $1,000 each from its Educational Scholarship Fund to students in the service area. This is a new opportunity for the Cooperative to support the area’s high-achieving students as they continue their educations. Joint Steamfitting Apprenticeship Committee.



  • The George E. Allen Academic Scholarship Program is now seeking applicants!! The George E. Allen Academic Scholarship Program celebrates the life of the firm’s founder, George E. Allen, Sr. The law firm of Allen & Allen will award fifteen $1,500 scholarships to high school seniors to assist them in furthering their education. The applicant must be a senior in high school, whose plans include advanced education through college, nursing, business, trade, technical training or other similar programs.   • The Piedmont Soil and Water Conservation District will award three scholarships of $1,000 to a student enrolled in, majoring in or showing a strong desire to major in a course curriculum related to Natural Resource Conservation and/or Environmental Studies and who demonstrate an active interest in conservation. Please see your school counselor for an application. The deadline is March 2, 2016.



  • The Judith Randolph-Longwood Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution Grace L. Jones Scholarship Committee has a scholarship that will be awarded by the Judith Randolph-Longwood Chapter DAR in May to a high school senior who intends to pursue a career in Nursing. Please see your school counselor for an application. The deadline is March 15, 2016.

  • The Society of the Cincinnati in the State of Virginia History Essay Contest for College Scholarship is now seeking applicants. The Society of the Cincinnati in the State of Virginia announces an essay contest for any Virginia high school senior who will attend any four-year college or university in the Commonwealth of Virginia beginning in the fall of 2016. The Society will award a $3,000 scholarship to the author of each of the four essays that are judged to be the most outstanding. Please see your History teacher or your school counselor for more information about this scholarship. The deadline is March 18, 2016.
