AP Environmental Science Tests

Because APES has a high stakes test at the end of the year, test practice is very important and so is doing well on the tests. Tests will occur in a variety of manners: multiple choice, short answer, essay, etc.

Unit Tests:

  • Tests over content in the Collegeboard specified units. These are less frequent, but cover a larger breadth of content.

  • These scores will not be curved but students may complete test corrections to ½ point per missed multiple choice question. These points will be added as extra credit to the Assessment portion of their grade not directly to the test score.

Chapter tests:

  • Students will be expected to take notes from the chapters in the form of Cornell Notes.

    • The first two chapters will be guided.

  • All notes must be hand written on the right side of the Cornell note form.

  • On the left side of the Cornell notes students will add addition information from classroom activities and lectures.

  • These hand written notes can be used on chapter multiple choice tests.

  • These scores will not be curved but students may complete test corrections to ½ point per missed multiple choice question. These points will be added as extra credit to the Assessment portion of their grade not directly to the test score.

Pre-reading tests:

  • Students will take chapter pre-reading tests to verify that they have read the chapter prior to attending class. These will be short and no test corrections will be allowed.

Free Response Questions (FRQ):

Part of the AP exam includes Free Response Questions. These require a variety of skills from the students such as math, critical thinking, data analysis, and extensions of learning. We will practice these throughout the year, but some free response questions will be included as test scores. This will be announced and will not be a surprise; the FRQ questions will be graded using the Collegeboard rubric if it is a released question or a rubric prewritten by an instructor. Depending on how the specific FRQ is used during the process of instruction, they may be included as an assignment, an assessment score or a curved score.

Vocabulary Quizzes

Checking for vocabulary understanding and included in the Assessment portion of the grade.

CRT

This is the final exam. For both semesters there is a CRT final exam, they are worth 20% of the semester grade. The exams are meant to be a survey of the textbook chapters. Semester one covers chapters 1-12 and semester two covers chapters 13-26.
