Annual Quality Assurance Report


For the 2006 - 2007
Part - A



  • All programmes will be learner centered.

  • As per the University guidelines, semester system is introduced for the students.

  • The internal Assessment component under the semester system ensures the student participation in the process of teaching and learning.

  • Parents will be involved in the admission process.

  • Counseling will be done to the first year students and their parents / Guardians.

  • One day Induction cum Orientation Programme will be organized for all the first year students.

  • Career information and guidance Programme will be arranged for the final year students

  • Co-curricular activities will be organized at the class level as well as the college level.

  • Two Unit tests will be conducted for the students during every semester.

  • Faculty members will be given opportunity to participate in seminars / Workshops / Conferences and Training Programme.

  • Faculty members will be encouraged to take up research activities.

  • Faculty members will be given permission to attend Orientation / Refresher courses to enhance their knowledge and skills.

Response from students was very good for the Semester system. Both faculty members and the students participated actively. Plan of action chalked out was successfully implemented.
Part – B


  1. Activities reflecting the goals and objectives of the institution:



      • In order to provide and increase facilities for higher education compact disc on different subjects are being added to the library as detailed below :

      • Number of complimentary C.D´s: 54

      • Audio visual facility has been used as a supplement to the lecture method.

      • All the special lectures are arranged in AV room in which OHP was used wherever necessary.

      • Internet facility is provided to the students.

      • The Union and Gymkhana activities, conducted throughout the year gives an ample opportunities to our talented students .

3. Innovations in curricular design and transaction:
The curricular is solely designed by the Karnataka University Dharwad. However members of our teaching faculty are actively engaged in framing the syllabus in different capacities.
The innovations in transactions carried out are mentioned below.


  • Group discussions

  • Students are motivated to give seminar in the class.

  • Student –teacher discussion method.

  • Use of multi media

  • Use of newspaper to teach modern English Grammar

  • A brief talk by the students at the beginning of every class.

  • Visits to nearby industries and Banks.

4. Inter-disciplinary Programme started: Nil


5. Examination reforms implemented:
5.1 Semester system has been introduced to UG 1 from the year 2005 -06.

Internal assessment is compulsory in this system, conducting two Unit

tests

to review Students performance.



5.2 The result / analysis of the internal assessment is displayed on the

Notice board in order to maintain transparency.

5.3 For the benefit of genuine cases of absentees, a separate test is

conducted.

7. Initiatives towards faculty development programme:


Under faculty development programme many of our teachers are initiated to attend the refresher courses, seminars, workshops and conferences and symposiums. Details are given below:

7.1 Dr. M. G. Gollikatte, Principal :DEPT. OF COMMERCE :



I. Workshop and Seminar Participated:

  1. Attended the workshop on “communication skill - personality development and women empowerment” on 30th sep 2005 at PG centre Kodibag Karwar organized by Dist. Task force for Higher Education, Sadashivgad.

  2. Participated in the national seminar on ‘The present context at higher education in India’ on October 21st and 22nd 2005 held at Christ college Bangalore.

  3. Participated in the ‘National Conclave of Leaders in Education’ organized by the ICFAI university at Hyderabad from 9th may to 11th may 2005

  4. Participated in two day state level workshop on ‘Disaster Risk Management’ conducted at the science Centre Pilikula Nisarga Dharma Mangalore on 5th & 6th march 2005.

  5. Attended seminar conducted on “Women Empowerment“ on 1st October 2005 in the Marine Biology Department, Kodibag, Karwar.

      1. Paper presented in the workshop on ‘Marketing strategies for fisheries development’ organized by the Fisherman survey of India Madgaon, Goa.

7.2. Departmental Developmental Activities:
7.2.1. DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE:


          • One day orientation programme on “Career planning and personality development” is conducted successfully for B.Com first semester students.

          • One day programme on “Career in Commerce and Management” is organized for B.Com final year students.




          • All the B.Com second year students were taken to State Bank of India And Corporation Bank, Branch Karwar to expose to them on Core Banking System and ATM Networking System in the subject of Banking Law and practice.

          • Guest lectures are arranged by eminent personalities – Dr, Benne, Shau Maharaj University, Kolhapur on ‘Career in Management’ etc.

7.2.2. DEPARTMENT OF HISTORY:




  1. Prof Siddhalingayya Dept. of History ,Govt. Arts and science college Karwar, invited as guest lecture and delivered lecture on ‘Lessons of History.

  2. A historical tour was organized to enhance knowledge and to create historical awareness among the students.Visited Mirjan Fort, Mudhabhatkal , Dhareshwar, Gokarn and Bhatkal.

  3. Once in a week students are motivated to prepare themselves to face competitive exams .

  4. Guided them to how to prepare and face the competitive exams.

  5. Motivated the students to prepare projects and manuscripts on historical, monuments and local history documentation of local history and cultural heritage

7.2.3.DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMICS:


  1. Project work done for B. Com III students On “Economics Status of Ambigas and Gabit in Sadashivgad”

  2. Seminar conducted for BA III students

  3. Survey work done on village of SSI of Sadashivgad

  4. Integrated programmes for SC/ST students in the dept of economics

  5. Seminars were conducted for Arts and commerce students

  6. Project work done for B.Com Students on Fisheries co-operative societies in Uttar Kannada.



7.2.4.DEPARTMENT OF ENGLISH:


        • Organized and Conducted “ Saree Day “ under the BGVS English Club on 10th Jan. 2007 delivered lecture on “Importance of Saree”.

        • Special coaching Class conducted for the identified slow learners from 17th Jan. to 24th Jan. 2007.

        • Spoken English class conducted for the B.A. & B.com students from 12th Feb. to 21st Feb, 2007.

        • Seminars conducted periodically and the students presented their papers on various topics followed by question and answers sessions


7.2.5.DEPARTMENT OF HINDI:


  • All the students of Dept. of Hindi Celebrated 14th September as

“Hindi Day

  • One Day workshop has been organized for students on “ Importance and Techniques of Translation”



7.2.6. DEPARTMENT OF KANNADA:


  • “Janapad Geeta Gayana” organized by the Dept. inviting one of the eminent personalities Dr. Shanta Naik, Sirganhalli, Mysore on 29-01-2005.

  • The seminar has been conducted on ‘ Karanatada Prachinate mattu sahitya’ in the month of March 2005.

  • Students are guided and motivated towards cultural activities.

  • General Knowledge Test on Karnataka has been conducted on the occasion of ‘Rajyostava’.

18.1.National Service Scheme ( N.S.S.):


  • Our NSS Unit is a part and parcel of our college .It considers as one of the active units in Karnataka University co curricular activities and linked with NSS Unit .

  • On the occasion of National Days like Republic Day, Independence Day Mahatma Gandhi Jayanti our NSS Unit undertaken Shramdanna in our college and adopt village, fills the ditches of public road and cleanes the slum areas.

  • Our NSS Unit has played key role in the eradication of social evils and social problems, our unit has participated in AIDS awareness, Jatha organized by Rotary Club Karwar.

  • On the occasion of International Beach Cleanup Day our NSS volunteers actively participated in cleaning the beach.




  • Our NSS Unit has undertaken many public health awareness programmes; free medical health checkup camp was organized with the assistance of District Hospital and Primary Health Centre Majali and Chittakula.

  • Our N.S.S. has conducted ‘Essay Competition ‘ to young school kids on ‘ Environmental Awareness’ and also on “ Social evils and National integration”

  • Our NSS units has taken active role in government projects voluntarily in construction of classrooms, building and levelling of grounds at Chittakula Arjunkot and Majali .

  • Our unit organized Jatha to create awareness regarding preservation of water, forest and natural resources and prejudice of society

  • Training for both NSS volunteers and youths of adopted village regarding vermiculture, beauty parlor ,gardening, candle making , preparation greeting cards and planting of Ayurvedic medical plants

  • Under monument preservation programme our unit visited Sadashivgad fort and mosque and undertook cleaning work of Hero stones and inscriptions

  • Series of guest lectures has been organized on population control , water pollution ,self employment discipline amongst youth and awareness of law and justice

  • Our unit conducted socio-economic survey in the adopted villages and derived at more than 75% people lives in falls under BPL. they wanted socio-economic support .Youths are interested in training and coaching programmes for self employment and to raise computer literacy.


18.2. National Cadet Cops ( N.C.C.):


  • Our N.C.C. (Navy) Unit have registered 50 Cadets – 33 Senior Division Boys and 17 Senior Division Girls during the year.

  • Twenty cadets participated Combined Annual Training Camp (C.A.T.C) held at Karwar and Secured first place in Boat Pulling.

  • Miss. Jaibul Khan secured First Place and Miss. Kranti Kirolaskar secured second place in Cross Country Race held at Karwar.

  • Our college student Kumari Sunita Kobrekar secured first place in Kabbaddi, of Karnataka University Dharwad women’s tournament held at Bangalore. She represented K.U.D. Inter-university Tournament.

  • Kum.Prasad Kamble and Kum. Vinod Naik, B.Com students secured first place in Beach Tournament held on the occasion of ‘ Karavali Festivel’ at Karwar.

  • Our college has successfully organized Karnataka University third zonal inter-collegiate Men’s Volleyball Tournament held from 02-02-06 to 04-02-206. 14 teams were participated in spirit.

  • Refreshment is given to the sports person at the time of coaching.

  • Miss. Francy Veigas and Brezilia Telis secured second prize in Western Music organized by Karnataka University Zonal Festival, at Sirsi.

  • Miss. Mamata Naik and Mr. Appanna Gondalli secured Second and Third prize respectively in Elocution Competition organized by “Dept. of Women and Child Development Uttar- Kannada Dist.”

  • Women Awareness programme has been conducted in association with Dept. of Women and Child development, Karwar.

  • Our college has organized “ AIDS Awareness Programme” in association with ‘ Dist. Health Department’, Karwar

  • Conducted General Knowledge Tests to all the Students periodically.

36. Activities of guidance and counseling units:


A committee for admission and counseling is formed to look after the students problems at the time of admission. This committee counsels students and their parents and guides the students in choosing the right course and right combination. Also the students are admitted to go under a special TQM training programme to bring hidden talents and skills.

Advertisement towards job opportunities from various employable establishments is received time to time. The Librarian makes them available to the students by displaying them on the notice board. Further, the interested students are motivated in this regard.
Apprenticeship Training South Region, Chennai, has organized ‘Apprenticeship Counseling for student’ in our college campus.

A workshop is organized and attended by non- teaching staff on “Working with Computer” as to Train and Guide for Office Automation.

  • Special coaching classes in English will be arranged for the identified slow learners in the beginning of academic year
