The Kamala Sircar Chatterjee Medal for Commitment to Excellence in the study of History was instituted by Ms. Anuradha Chatterji, in memory of her grandmother, the late Mrs. Kamala Chatterjee who was Sir Nilratan Sircar’s daughter. Born in 1899, she studied History at Loreto College. She became one of the first Indian women to graduate in Modern History from the University of Oxford in 1924. She was an eminent Social Worker and did pioneering research on the condition of women in coal-mining areas. She also published widely,on women’s issues. She died in 2002, in her 103rd year. The Prof. Gurudas Bandyopadhyay Medal was instituted by Mrs. Anindita Bandyopadhyay in memory of her father-in-law, the late Prof. Gurudas Bandyopadhyay.
