Essay # 3 – No Title

“And [in] the alternation of night and day…are signs for a people who reason,” (45, 5). If there was no light, no trees would bloom and no animals would grow. The sun would not kiss our faces in the summer or warm our hands in the winter. Dark days would not see brightness and the soul would freeze cold without the assurance that one could sleep off the darkness, wake up, and be given the opportunity to start over. So what if one morning we awoke to complete darkness? Yes, the early hours of morning are more often than not ebony, but what about the latter part of our day?

Everything around us is Allah’s creation. The trees are creations of God. The ground that supports these trees, the water that grows these trees, and the sun that nourishes the trees are all Allah’s creations. One may not always realize this, when looking at our surroundings but I believe, that light, one of the most obvious and noticeable aspects of nature, is given by Allah to remind us, that he is there. I also believe that the gift of light is given to us as a chance to rebirth ourselves before the next sunset and the following sunrise. As stated in sura an’Nur:
"God is the Light of the heavens and the earth;

The similitude of His Light is as if there were a niche;

And within it a Lamp: the Lamp enclosed in Glass;

The glass as it were a glittering star;

Lit from a Blessed Tree…”

Allah has created nature for us to enjoy. Without light, our eyes would not be able to view and appreciate nature’s greatness. The fact that we are given the opportunity to see, and study our existence and all that is around us shows us Muslims that we are able to strengthen our faith and finalize our certainty of Islam.
