8th Grade Advanced World History

This course offers an overview of significant people, events, and issues throughout world history. The summer assignment for this course is a three-part assignment. This will count as your first assignment grade. This assignment will be due during the summer. (See school website for due date.) In addition, the vocabulary and map assignments will be due the second day of classes. You will also have an assessment on the vocabulary and map on the second day of the school year.


Summer Assignment: Part I (25 Points)

WORLD RELIGION CHART

Using the sources provided, complete the chart below regarding five world religions. You do not need to write in complete sentences in this chart. This must be handwritten. Write your name at the top of this assignment. Use this chart to complete Part II.

Summer Assignment: Part II (25 Points)

Choose two of the five religions from your chart. Complete the Venn diagram. Give three differences and three similarities between the two religions. You do not need to write in complete sentences on this Venn diagram. If there is not enough space in the Venn diagram, you may draw this on your own sheet of paper. This must be hand-written. Write your name at the top of the assignment. Use this diagram to complete Part III.





Summer Assignment: Part III (50 Points)
Write a four-paragraph comparative essay on two world religions. In this essay, you should compare and contrast (how they are similar and dissimilar) the two world religions from your Venn diagram. This should be in your own legible handwriting (a computer-generated document will NOT be accepted). Write your name at the top of your essay. Use only the sources I have provided. Since I have provided the sources, you do not need to include citations for this essay. Points will be deducted for any grammatical and spelling errors.

Introduction

Your introductory paragraph should provide information about the topic and should include the two religions that you have chosen to compare in this essay. This paragraph explains the intent of your essay.


The Second Paragraph

This paragraph of your essay should compare three aspects of your two chosen religions. Include information from your Venn diagram.
